Any recommendations from those who have hunted with Alaskan/Yukon outfitters or guides whom they would consider very good at their craft? Solid, ethical, and experienced all come to mind describing the outfit I am looking for. I would prefer to hunt with a smaller outfit, and not one that treats hunters like an assembly line. I appreciate the help.

I’ve hunted twice with Wade Renfro. Once for moose and again for brown bear. Based out of Bethel, Alaska. My hunts were in 2008 and 2010, so this isn’t current info by any means, but I would not hesitate to hunt with them again. Very well organized, professional bush pilots, guides, etc…

Feel free to reach out if I can answer any questions or help in anyway. Alaska is a special place for sure. Best of luck in finding the type of hunt your looking for.

You can look up Justin Horton with H&H, he has a concession on the peninsula. I've hunted Brown bear with him, good solid guy and just a few clients per year. Exhibits at DSC also.
Glenda Groat with Canol outfitters in Mackenzie mountains is also a great guide/outfitter. Sahtu tribe owns the concession.

You’ve got a couple great names already.

Johah Stewart is great and offers so horseback hunts where most don’t. He also has his own plane and does his own scouting. He was one of my top contenders in Alaska when looking at booking a Dall Sheep Hunt.

Justin Horton with H&H is a really solid guy. Biggest caveat with him is his moose areas are all draw and the state went from OTC to draw (10 permits) to 3 permits (after draw deadlines) without telling anyone, I think they’re back up to 5 permits but the odds aren’t great and there are multiple other operators in the same area now.

Jeremy Ruesink with Rogue Expeditions kills some absolute monsters. He scouts and hunts harder than most other outfitters but he’s the type that wants to find and kill the biggest bull in Alaska that year.

Phil Shoemaker of Grizzly Skins is a legend. You’ll likely hunt with his son or daughter though. I’ve got a buddy who’s moose hunted with them and killed an absolute giant on Day 2 or 3.

Will Koehler of Wrangell Mountain Outfitters. Only briefly talked with him but his name always comes up as a recommendation.

Below are some Canadian names based on conversations with them for other hunts
Tim Mervyn, Ceaser Lake, Rogue River, Ruby Range, Blackstone, Jim Lancaster of Lancaster’s (NWT), Griz with Raven’s Throat (NWT)

I have also hunted with Raven’s Throat in the NWT, but it wasn’t for moose. I was after Mt. Caribou and Dall Sheep. There were some moose hunters in camp when I was there that killed some fantastic moose. You won’t find better folks than Grizz and Ginger, they run a top notch outfit.

Thank you all for the list on names. I am contacting them now and beginning discussions. I am still open to any other suggestions, names, or advice about what to look for, or just as important, what or who to avoid, and why. I got so much great advice when I was researching my second trip to Africa, and chose an incredible outfitter in Namibia with help from this forum. Thank you again.

Heading up Sept 1 for horseback Moose / Griz in the Brooks Range with Jonah. Comes highly recommended from several folks I trust. Will have first hand knowledge shortly. Did horseback mountain goat and mountain caribou in the Yukon last year with Ceaser Lake (now operated by Dustin Roe of Backcountry BC & Beyond fame and Colbie Coglon) and going back for river moose with them in '26. Dustin is no longer a small outfit, but he's still very hands on, along with his father and a very good crew. The Wilkinsons who sold him the Ceaser Lake outfit still help him out too. I prefer small family run operations too, but also appreciate Dustin's drive and passion. And you can't go wrong with any of the outfits in the NWT. All are top notch. Gana River does it horseback, which is my jam, so booked with them for sheep in '29.

Had an excellent classifieds transaction with JoninCO. A truly honest and standup member. I wouldn't hesitate at all to deal with him again. Thanks, J!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
