Goeie Naand,

I am looking for flights into Jo-Berg in July, from the States We have flown on South African air. Delta, and K.L.M Several times before, now the search is showing up Emirates, and Qatar are a lot cheaper than the first 3 above, Does any body have any thing to say about the last 2 airlines.

Such as bringing firearms, ammo thus needing permits like in Amsterdam? or anything that I should be aware of, I am bringing over friends and family with us (six or seven) and Really don't need any problems or headaches.
Thank you for your for your help

Hi 500 Nitro ~ yes, I am familiar with Emirates as we have been sending quite a few clients that route for certain destinations. There is a firearm transit permit required with Emirates and you submit the completed form to them 30 days prior to your trip, there are no fees for this. I ticketed several PH's on Emirates to come over to the U.S. for the marketing season and there were no complaints - it's a good airline.

I am familiar with Qatar and believe they are a good airline but I don't have any firsthand experience with them.

Hope this helps!

Travel Express--What prices are you seeing for clients on Emirates to jnb from JFK for summer travel?

I flew Emirates from DFW to Joberg with a plane transfer in Dubai. Everything was great and flawless. Traveled with a rifle and it was a simple process. Out of the three trips I have taken to Southern Africa it was the best. British airways on the other hand was a disaster.

I am flying Emirates in May.... From
DFW.... Flown delta before. Looking forward, hope all goes well.

I hate flying!!

Yes. But until then, multiple little bottles while flying, followed by short bouts of sleep.

Emirates makes all US carriers look like clown shoe wearing operations!

I'd rather be in coach on Emirates than biz class on SAA or delta.

Biz class on Emirates is 1/3 the price of competitors and is vastly superior to first class on American, United, KLM.

Can't praise Emirates enough.

I would probably go to Africa every other year if I could get there without spending 2 days on a bloody plane and hauling me and my gear all over airports.

Iberia is starting the JNB Routing again in August 2016.. i´m fliying with them in October..

I had some Houston based friends meet us in Joburg for a Vic Falls & Chobe photo safari in Aug 2015. They flew Qatar b-class and said it was half the price of Delta b-class. Service was great but its longer flying time and long connections (~12 hrs in Doha). B-class tickets included a hotel room for the long layover. Not sure on the gun details, but certainly worth considering Qatar.

A general observation about airline pricing: fuel prices have dropped significantly over the past year and this is one of the largest operating expenses for an airline. I have not seen a reduction in airfare anywhere, so I can only conclude airlines are reaping some large profits in 2016.

matrix airfare search is the place to be...
You will always find the best Fares to any Location !!

Heard nothing but good reports on Emirates. As some have mentioned the lay over adds a half day each way!

shortest travel time Atl-Jnb. Going through europe is considerably cheaper but I lose a day in travel.

Good points here. I have two main reason why I won't use Emirates unless it's the only choice available:
1. I refuse to give any muslim/muslim entity my hard earned American money.
2. As pointed out to me once, why make a long trip that much longer?

When searching googleflights, I don't see where it's cheaper anyway, at least for DFW-JNB route.

All you guys who have or will be flying Emirates, what is the total travel time, and what is the flight times from US to Dubai, then Dubai to Joburg. I wouldn't mind trying it out someday if its nope supr long, I am one who loves to get there as quick as possible, thus Delta - ATL to Joburg

same reason I don't vacation in Cuba or transit gun grabber countries

Not sure of your exact route, but a quick search on google flights says DFW-ATL is 19:14 on Delta, Emirates is 25:35. Couldn't find Emirates Straight from ATL.

This is actually a good idea if the hunter is happy with the outfitter and ph from previous hunts. Own duplicate rifles and scopes (easy to do unless you own a Rigby and Schmidt and Bender) and a few other things, then leave a set there if you know you will continue to hunt there. Then you could get by with a backpack carry on and a medium to large gym bag. Travel would be much easier from an airport point of view, but it would do nothing for the 15 hours in the air!!!

This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.

Have twice tried to post something that your site canned as "SPAM" or some problem.. "Contact the Administrator"... Not sure why even the "Contact" button would not send my comment so you only received my query but not the content in question. I'll see if I can get it to you this way... NOPE I use a VPN and perhaps that is causing me grief...
