I have an upcoming hunt in Maun Botswana, followed by trip to Victoria Falls. Only direct flight is on Air Botswana. I can't log into Air Botswana website to verify their firearm transport rules. Can anyone provide me info re their experience transporting firearms on Air Botswana. Thanks

I was able to get to their website, but it’s not the easiest to navigate! I found this:

SPECIAL BAGGAGE (CARRIAGE OF FIREARMS AND AMMUNITION
The Botswana government policy does not allow private firearms in the country other than sporting rifles. It is the responsibility of the passenger to ensure all the necessary clearances and Licenses are obtained from Police and Air Botswana at least 24hrs before the intended date of travel to allow notification of transiting states. Firearms must be stored in lockable sturdy containers. Air Botswana will only allow Two firearms per passenger and a maximum of Four firearms per flight. Ammunition is limited to quantities NOT exceeding 5kg per passenger.

Got in touch with a travel agent that specializes in Africa hunting trips as was advised never to fly Air Botswana, even if no rifles.

Took a rifle on "Air Botswana" JNB to Maun in 2019.
No problems if your paperwork is in order, like mine!
Also, if you are hunting with Clive. He will have a greeter at Maun Airport to take you through process.
Just bring minimum ammo. 1 or 2 boxes.
Botswana/Maun Airport count every cartridge and tax each piece. Pay on the spot at airport customs coming and going. Long slow process.
Have fun, good luck!

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
