Well gents, I'm sure you're opening this thread anticipating an announcement regarding our annual dinner in Dallas. Unfortunately it is not the announcement I would like to make. As of now, the plans for the dinner are on hold. I have spoke with Jerome on the phone about this and we're in agreement that it is premature to book Gilley's for the event.
As you are probably guessing this is due to the Covid issue. While DSC is still scheduled, it's a long time between now and February and we would like to have more clarity that the show will happen and also what the situation will be even if it does. So just a few of our concerns and hopefully you'll understand:
1) Will DSC even come off? Not sure about this if there's the so called "second wave" of Covid.
2) What will the situation be at Gilley's if a "second wave" occurs? Just not sure they would be able to host our group of 200 we've had the last two years in the same room due to social distancing requirements.
Personally I'd rather cancel the event this year than to have to tell folks they can't come because we had to reduce the max attendance to 100 or some other lower number. There is of course the option to go to a bigger room, but that starts to be quite expensive.
3) If we book now and start taking reservations, what happens if the dinner gets cancelled due to the show being cancelled? That would be a giant pain for Jerome to have to refund that many people thru PayPal.
There are some other thoughts/concerns I have too, but I won't bore you further. For now as stated, the dinner is on hold. It's not cancelled yet, just on hold. As we approach the end of the year we should have more clarity and hopefully all will happen, we shall see.
I apologize that we have to do this. I look forward to this event every year as much anyone, but this is what Jerome and I think we must do for the time being.
