This a question for the Afrikaans speakers/readers on here. Last year I decided that I want to learn the language better, simply because I like it. Especially today, pretty much anyone I would meet in Namibia or South Africa who speaks Afrikaans will also speak English. But it's not about need, it's about my aesthetic love for the language. I've been told that I picked up the pronunciation fairly well from living in Welkom for several months in the mid 90s. I've been using the Mondly app, which covers the basic vocabulary from a tourist point of view.

I would like to try reading simple, short books in Afrikaans, knowing that I would rely on lots of help from Google translate as I work through it. Something with hunting or outdoor stories would be best to help keep me motivated, but also they would have the vocabulary that I'm most interested in. I'm guessing something a kid aged 7-12 would be good.

I can see search results for hunting books in Afrikaans but I can't tell from a book description if the language would be at the simpler end of the range. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions from the Afrikaans speakers on here. Baie dankie.

Ek kan help. Beste sal wees om in n jag winkel rond te loop en vir boeke te soek hier in SA. Alternatief, omrede ek sien jy sit in Kanada, daar is n paar aanlyn boekoe, of beskikbaar deur Amazon.

I can help. Best would be to browse a gun store here in SA. Alternatively, as I see you are in Canada, there are a few online books, or available through Amazon.

Wit Boesman. Peter Stark.
Anderkant die groot rivier. Pieter Pieterse.
Veldwagter. Hannes Kloppers.
Kattekwaad: Jag, Visvang, en ander. Sampie Strydom.
Stoffel by die afdraai pad. Christiaan Bakkes.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
