Hello , I been shooting it open site and it’s time to put the leupold 2-7 compact on
the gun smith is saying I need to do my own research on detachment rings
because he doesn’t have many people setting up a safari rifle
kinda disappointed “the expert “ doesn’t have any advice.
figure y’all boys know your business on scopes and dangerous game weapons
TIA

I’ve used Talley and Warne bases and QD rings. Both work fine. I can detach and reattach with no change in the point of impact. I think the Talley rings are a bit more precisely engineered but I can’t tell much difference in actual use.

Are these steel or aluminum?

What Doug3006 said. The Alaskan Arms rings look nicer but in my experience work no better than Warne or Talley.

Safe hunting

I use Warne Maxima (steel) bases and Warne Maxima QD's exclusively on my rifles that have quick detach (a 375 H&H and a 416 Taylor)..

All of my "normal" bases and rings on all other rifles are either Talley 1 piece set ups or Warne Maxima (non QD).. with the exception of 1 rifle that wears a leupold 1 piece base and leupold rings..

I have been super happy with the quality and performance of both Warne and Talley.. I trust both products explicitly..

Talley are steel. Warne rings are either aluminum or some alloy.

All Warne products are either aluminum (undisclosed which aluminum product they use), 7075 Aluminum (aluminum alloy composition of aluminum, zinc, magnesium, and copper), or steel..

Ive never used any of the Warne aluminum or 7075 aluminum products.. Im sure they are quality made.. but I prefer steel.. and the ounce or two difference steel puts on the rifle doesnt really make much of a difference (to me)..

It looks like to me you will meet to remove the peep sight to mount the scope. In that case QD probably won’t do any good. I prefer Talleys, they look nicer than some of the other options, and work very well.

Talley makes a superb product. I have them on almost all my rifles that also carry open sights.

I removed the peep site and re installed the express rear site ,

Call Mark @ R&M firearms, sponsor here. Very knowledgeable and service oriented. VERY good pricing and will make sure you get what is needed.

I’m curious what make and model that peep site is? It looks nice on the gun, we’re you happy with it?

I bought it like that , but it was ok @ 25-30 yards, I replaced with express and scope

Gotcha, that definitely sounds like the more common approach. How do you like the Mossberg patriot in 375? Have you had any problems with the push feed action?

I have never had a problem with a push feed in any of my rifles, sako , Remington, Winchester, savage, now a Mossberg
The patriot isn’t a tack driver @ 100 it’s about 1moa at best
From factory it’s a mule kicking SOB , so I added a better recoil pad and some weight

I used these Warne rings on my gun. Held zero from Florida to South Africa. Recommend them highly

I’ve had positive but limited results from push feed actions as well. There are definitely lots of alarmists who can scare a guy though. Thanks for the mini review.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
