Hello friends, I first apologize for taking so long to write. I hope you had a great start to the year. On this occasion I want to face two fast one with a belt with a belt and American origin and another without a belt and European origin. Which one seems better? Say that I bought a second-hand Voere rifle in the 8x68S cartridge.

Thank you. But I read that 300 Weatherby has got better performance.

 What you reading? More speed with lighter bullets?

The 8x68S fires a heavier bullet at higher velocity at lower pressure than the 300 Weatherby with the added advantage of being able to fire a 250 gr bullet at reduced velocity that can make it a better all round cartridge for use in Africa.

It normally comes without a muzzle break, it does not have a belted case.

It has an enviable reputation in countries such as Namibia where long shots are often needed.

It kills with deadly efficiency.

Make mine a 8x68S!

I prefer the 8X68s

Comparing .30 caliber to 8mm cartridges in my opinion goes like this; 8x57is-30-06, 8x68s-.300WM, 8mm Rem Mag-.300Wby. I own all of the above and prefer the 8's to the .30 Cal across the board but the .30's have the advantage, to the traveling hunter, in availability of ammunition. The differences of belted vs.non belted doesn't mean squat to me as both have functioned well for a very long time. The advantage the .30 cals have with B.C. too doesn't mean much inside of 500-600 yds.

Given the choice I'd take the 8x68s over any .300, but then again I'd take an 8mm over an equivalent .30cal every time.

Make mine a .300 Weatherby!

Thank you for your answers. I have a 300 Win Mag and now I will have an 8x68S as well. The point is that in my country, I read that 300 Weatherby surpassed 8 and that 300 Win Mag practically equaled it. Obviously the aforementioned cartridges are very good but I wanted to know which protrudes a bit in benefits.

This will be my new rifle

It must be noted that the 8mm is around .323.
So therefore there’s a significant difference to start with.

To solve the problem buy both! I am sure that you will be happy, maybe your wife wont be lol.
I already have a 300 Win Mag and a 338 Win Mag plus a 375 H & H and a 458 Lott and now the 8x68S comes in. If I put at home a Weatherby 300 my wife kills me with the pan and rightly so.

This is my Santa Barbara in 300 WM.

Which model is it have a Titan II in 8x68s and indeed same in 375 HH
I do not know the exact model. I still do not have the gun in my hands. I am waiting for the competent authorities in the matter of arms to give me the membership guide that proves that I am authorized to possess the rifle. It's like an identity document of the weapon that enables me to be its owner. Bureaucracy of Spain.

It appears to be an early version of the Modell 2165, i.e. fitted with the tang safety but standard Mauser striker housing instead of the later streamlined housing.

I have everything mentioned in this thread, say for a few, and would always reach for my 8x68S first. 300WBY is nice but the 8x68 is better.
Thanks for your reply. The 300 Weatherby is a great cartridge. It has been giving satisfaction to its users for many years. But the 8x68S has that legend that makes it very appetizing.

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci

Hi Walden. Good morning from England, Chris here (The Englishman!) from Croatia. Firstly it was a pleasure to meet you and Michelle - a fellow Sanderson! I have finally joined AH as I enjoy it very much. Glad you enjoyed the hunt and your write up which I read on AR was very good indeed. I am sending on WhatsApp pics from Bojan of some of the animals hunted recently. Take care and best regards. CS.
