My name is Erick and I live in the state of Maine and will probably never get to experience hunting in Africa but I have a love and passion for the older German/European cartridges. My current favorite rifle is a Ruger #1 RSI I had re-barreled to 9.3x62. It is a beautiful rifle in a classic old round. My new project is building a switch barrel set up on a Kelbly Action. The first barrel is going to be chambered in 8x68S and my second barrel will be in the 6.5x68. I have absolutely no need for this rifle other than I want it. It will probably be the only rifle in Maine being used for deer, black bear, and if I get a tag a moose.

My question for you guys is I am having a very hard time finding brass or ammo for the 6.5x68. I have 150 new cases for the 8x68S and was hoping someone here could help me either find some 6.5x68 brass or help me figure out to neck some of my 8x68S brass down to 6.5.

Thanks

6,5x68 and 8x68S are good for Maine also.... no Africa required, go for it.
I have a Mauser 66S in 6,5x68 and a barrel in 8x68S, and it is a great combination.

HWL,

That is a beautiful rifle? I always like it when they ask me what rifle I used at the tagging station and I can tell them something they have never heard of. I figure that would be a great combo for anything here in North America.

Thanks for sharing that picture. Here is a picture of a couple of my 9.3x62's. One is a Ruger #1 I had re-barreled with a Shilen barrel and the other is a Ruger Hawkeye action with a Krieger barrel, NECG barrel band front with flip up night site and a Recknagel running boar rear sight insert bedded up in a MPI lightweight Mannlicher style stock. I only had that rifle about a week before a good friend on Kodiak talked me out of it. He wanted it for his walking around rifle.

Two very fine rifles @TrapperErick and welcome to AH!

I’d love to hear about your hunting stories in Maine :)

Hi Jon,
I saw your post for the .500 NE cases. Are these all brass or are they nickel plated? Hard for me to tell... sorry.
Thanks,
