7mm rem mag to 375 h&h

So I am toying around with the idea of taking a 7mm rem mag that I have laying around (weatherby vanguard) and rebarreling it to a 375 h&h. Has anybody done this conversion before? I already have a nice 7mm rem mag that's a remington 700 with a nice wood stock so it's not like I would be loosing out on the 7mm fun

Length wise it should be ok. I have 300 Wby that I be,
lieve is the same size as a 7 mag and it will convert to 375 hh

he .375 may fit the action, but check out the magazine length and width. You'll have to do some work there.

416 Taylor would be an interesting option. And should be a simple re barrel with no magazine work.

The 300 wby cartridge is .025” shorter and .04” shorter COL than 375HH(3.600”). Depending on how much tolerance was machined in the action and mag well, it could be an “easy” 375 conversion. Take it to a good gunsmith for the best recommendation on your specific action.

For the 416 Taylor, the internal mag and action has room to spare for fitting and ejecting the 416 cartridge, 0.24”. Unless you can get Norma factory ammo, you’ll need to handload or find someone who will. Depending where you look, ballistics are comparable to 416 rigby.

Your 7mag will be too short to convert to 375HH without significant action work and milling, but it could work $$$

Hi @CO_mtnman unless you are just looking for something to do, I would just buy a 375, by the time you get done rebarreling and rail work to get proper feeding you will most likely exceed the cost of a new vanguard but you will still have a vanguard that will sell for less than you paid for it. Not a jab at Vanguard rifles just being real. There are a ton of good used 375’s out there to be had. And the 416 Taylor is an excellent and efficient cartridge if you reload! I just sold an excellent CZ 375, bringing me down to just under a ridiculous amount of 375’s. Now I’m thinking 416 Taylor again dammit!

I do reload so that covers alot of bases and I already have a 375 but a nice wood stocked sako so originally I had planned on having a synthetic stocked working man's 375 that I wouldn't get to upset if it got dings and scratches but now with this talk of a 416 taylor it seems like I am back to the drawing board as I don't own anything larger than the sako 375

Like others have said. The Weatherby Vanguard/Howa action will require work to turn into 375. Remington Magnum actions no problem in doing. But with the current cost of quality barrels and gunsmith services. You will be way better off selling the Vanguard and buying a 375
