Hey guys I am planning my 2nd trip to the dark side. I am planning on adding to my tiny 10 on this trip. I want to take my 6mm ackley loaded with the barnes 95grain lrx bullets. What are your thoughts for hide damage with this bullet? Also looking at the hammer bullets as well.

Take a 22 Hornet! The velocity of 6mm Ackley will lead to too much damage and for a few years I
used on on Coyotes until I got tired of sewing up hides and getting docked by the buyers for pelt damage! Most of the tiny ten have very thin hides. Another option is a 375 with flat point solids.

Bad idea.......
What other rifle do you have or are taking?

I was thinking of my 223 also

223 with the same copper bullets or partitions.

Also pretty fast. Think slow and poking a neat hole, not rapid expansion you'd want for killing power. 223 might be better than the your other choice but even with FMJ or solids, the bullets may tumble and rip hides apart.
I tried a 30-06 with round nose solids and it was too much.

My favorites have been 22 hornet with 45 grain round nose, 22 LR and 22 magnum but with 40 grain round nose bullets. Shotgun with #4 birdshot, and 375 with 300 grain solids.

And try to slip bullets through the ribs behind the shoulder.

Steenbok is one of the bigger ones. I used a 308 with PMP no problem. Not a lot of damage. I have killed a few that way.

The really small ones need a really small gun.

I shot a European badger a few nights ago with a 17 HMR with night vision. She ran about 40 yards. no entry wound no exit wound.

I would run the heavy copper bullets in the 223 and slow them down. I was reading on here that another member had good luck with the 70 grain Barnes tax with minimal damage

Here's a photo of Tony receiving that Shaw & Hunter award at the 1970 annual EAPHA Dinner Dance. Tony Dyer, then EAPHA President and Princess (Sunny) von Auersperg presented it. I also attended the event.

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ

What is the minimum you would take.
