I am looking a buying a 470 or 450/400 but I am not finding ammo online. Should I expect this type of ammo to become available this year or is it a totally unknown. I do not want to buy a gun and not find components or ammo. Anybody want to provide their best guess.

Sorry I meant 450/400.

Better learn to reload

I bought a Heym 88B double in .458 Winchester. Albeit a rimless, belted cartridge, I can always find ammo and reloading components.

The 500/416 rimmed cartridge uses the common .416 bullets.
A 450 Nitro uses the common .458 bullets.

Here is some 450 Nitro ammo:

And in the same search, some 450-400 ammo...

Heck, I found the jackpot for you:

Thanks. Sort of leaning towards the 470.

I have 500/416 brass from my first double, but there is no 500/416 ammo or brass in the Hornady catalog. Cannot find a rifle in 500/416 anyway.

Finding brass and bullets is also an issue. Would like to have some factory to crono and start with.
I would go w .470 NE

You can always have a few boxes made for you. They don't do the 450/400

470 NE probably easier to find, but all big bore ammo is tough to find, depending on time of year. And it's all expensive. The last box of 416 Rigby I bought was about $15 per round.
Go on Federal Premium's website and click on rifle ammo, then on premium safari ammo for big bore stuff. They may have what you are looking for. If you click on a particular load and it shows unavailable, then go to Federal's custom shop and order what you need. Won't be cheap.

I posted the link above.

Federal will load 470 NE but they don't offer the 450/400

Hendershot's (linked above) will load both.

And no...it isn't cheap. Welcome to Big Bore Land

have you looked at a 450NE, ammo to be found and using a 458 dia bullet lots of choices in bullets little or no difference in ballistics and if properly built a handier rifle to carry and shoot
Honestly .450 NE would be my choice if I went bigger than my .416

WRT 450/400 3" both ammo and bullets are just now coming online. Just not yet brass.

There was recently a drop of DGX Bonded bullets from Hornady. They should still be available.
For brass I just buy the DGS ammo and get in some practice. If Hornady is offering up the ammo, then it stands to reason the brass will follow.

As been already said, AmmoSeek.com will get you there.
