If you are building DG rifle which one will you.
A404 jlJeffery or A 470 Capstick.

Depends on what exactly you want to do. Factory ammo for either is about as common as hens teeth so that's a push.

Some would say that the belted brass of the 470CAP is a detractor in a magazine fed rifle. Not how I feel, but I've heard people say it has more potential to jam or catch when reloading.

404J would be great for PG as well as DG, where the 470CAP is more of a stopping cartridge or used for elephant.

I know you are never supposed to look at these things, but considering resale I believe the 404J would be more desirable, sell more quickly and more easily recoup your investment.

My vote would be for the 404J for the versatility, ease of shooting it and potential resale.

I had the same problem making a decision so I’m building one of each on Montana 1999 PH actions

Krish , you already have a 404 but do you have a 470c? You should buy that 600ok we were talking about.

I almost bought a Win Model 70 "Big Five" in 470 Capstick. I think it's a great round. I ended up working with Harlan at Triple River to convert my CZ 550 in 375 H&H (which already had AHR's CZ #1 upgrade) to 500 Jeffery for $500. Happy with my decision, would've been very happy with a 470 Capstick as well.

If I planned on taking it anywhere in Africa it would be the .404j, for obvious reasons, availibility.

.404 Jeffery. Out of the two choices you listed, ammunition for this one will be easier to find (even if ever so slightly).

404...it's classic. I don't even know anyone who owns a 470 Capstick and that's saying something with the group of misfits I know.

404 Jeff....

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
