Many of you have likely seen the meme:

and maybe even read a little about the conversion:

But here is everyone's favorite big bore YouTube goofball actually shooting one. It obviously needs to have the bugs worked out of it to be trusted as a DG rifle, but holy monkeys... what a hoot

Enjoy,

Seen these videos a few times. Having an M1 Garand in 30-06 makes me think it's lonely and needs a big brother in 458WM.

+1...just not in my budget right now. Maybe in three years.

Buuut...then again maybe money better spent on another hunt or multiple safaris.

I have seen these videos, earlier.
I wonder if anybody ever took this beast for actual hunting?
I doubt this was ever taken to Africa.

But interesting piece, nonetheless, I see this mostly as collectible item.

It may be a collectable. But damn straight if I find myself in possession of one it is getting equal range time.

Edit: Post Script: Definitely going to add a proper recoil pad to the buttstock.

Think it was 97 I read about an article in GA magazine , the year book about m14 conversion to .338 and 300 Win , in same also a bit about the m1 in .458

Back in the day there were a number of sambar hunters who used BAR s converted to 458 WM.
Yes, not sure why, but it was not uncommon down here when we could have SLRs, and from what I heard was a reliable conversion.

I’ll take one in 375H&H because I’m a wimp and don’t feel like adding another cartridge to my collection.

I'm in Canada, and there was a company up here that somewhere picked up barrels for the Garand in 9.3x62, which sounds like a more reasonable idea. And there are several modern companies that sell or sold that standard in various versions for driven hogs. A lot of their stuff was sold to Intersurplus, but I don't see those barrels there, and it is hard to see the public having bought them after they kicked around for so long.

Hi Jon,
I saw your post for the .500 NE cases. Are these all brass or are they nickel plated? Hard for me to tell... sorry.
Thanks,
