This is what factory loaded soft nose/expanding ammo is currently available in Australia for the 458 Lott. What would be your pick for scrub bulls and buffalo?

.458 WM with any of those! Ha! Ha!

Just commenting on the caliber. The many buffalo experts here will soon comment I’m sure on your bullet selections. Although, I’ve read good things here about the Federal TBBC and the bonded Hornady DGX?

So far I have had a very good experience with the DGX Bonded, I haven't yet used TBBC or the old DGX. My go to is usually Sift A-frames but unfortunately not currently available in factory loaded ammo in Australia for the 458 Lott. If we are talking game specific I would probably actually lean towards the DGX bonded for scrub bulls here in Australia only because they are thinner skinned than buffalo and I would lean towards the TBBC for buffalo as from what I have seen (but not yet experienced) they seem like a tougher bullet.

With the exception of the older non bonded DGX, would it really matter which of these in a Lott would work on buffalo? That’s a LOT of energy and penetration with any of these bullets? But, maybe some are better than others? The experts here will guide you.

Yeah I agree, probably all would work fine on buffalo, maybe some better than others. I'm still interested to see what people will vote for. Maybe I shouldn't have made the votes publicly visible so the closet DGX lovers can vote without anyone seeing?[/QUOTE]

Can you find anything in 450gr? The Barnes I have in my WM are at 2240fps (maybe a little more in my CZs 25”barrel). That 450gr would scream out of your Lott!

I have looked at Barnes and it looks like the Australian importer brings in that load for the WM but they haven't brought in anything for the Lott. Having said that I could use the WM ammo in my Lott if I really wanted to.

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
