I am planning on using my CZ550 458 Lott at my local range for practice. Reduced, cast bullet loads are the rule at my club. I planning on using Australian made Black Widow 405 grain round nose lead projectiles. Wondering if anyone could assist in providing reduced load data with ADI powder. Owing to the capacity of the round, I am unsure if hangfires are an issue. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately there isn't a great deal of manufacturer published load data around for the 458 Lott. This might possibly be because of the chamber variations: SAAMI, CIP, 458 WM reamed out to 458 Lott etc. You could try an email to the ADI reloading support reload.support@adiworldclass.com.au

That aside, if by "reduced load" you're referring too something around 1,000 fps then you might need to experiment with Trailboss. Unfortunately, currently ADI has production of Trailboss on hold due to technical reasons.

Thank you for your advice. I will contact ADI & ask the question.

You can also look for something in the 458wm data. It would be a good starting point and it has been around a long time compared to the Lott.

If your powder is not listed look at a powder burn chart and compare the powder you have to the one listed. You can adjust accordingly.

I've used 23 grains of Unique behind a hard cast 405 grain bullet. Haven't shot it over my chronograph yet, but it should going about 1400 ft./sec.. No leading, and with Unique you don't have to add fillers or wads to take up the remaining space in the cartridge. The added advantage of the Lott over the Win Mag is that the bullet can be seated just off the rifling lands. With the Win Mag the bullet can travel an inch before it engages the rifling. I'm not a good enough shot to notice the difference but some folks claim greater accuracy with lead bullets seated to almost touching the lands.

I have been using 36 grains of Accurate 5744 behind a 405 grain cast, powder coated bullet for about 1600 fps in my .404. This is a mild and accurate load. Not sure what an equivilent ADI powder would be, but an old standby for reduced loads is IMR4895.

Hornady lists a starting load of 64.4 grns of IMR4895 for 1900fps with a 500 grn bullet.

Richard Lee lists loads for cast lead bullets (300, 400, 460, and 485 grn.) in the .458 Lott using either Trail Boss or A5744.

300 grn. lead w/ Trail Boss- min. 19 grns (1187 fps), max.23 gns. (1282 fps)
400 grns. lead w/ Trail Boss - min. 18 grns (1040 fps), max. 21 grns (2113 fps)
400 grns. lead w/A5744 - min. 45 grns (1909 fps), max. 51 grns. (2170 fps.)
460 grn. lead w/A5744 - min. 44.1 (1779 fps), max. 40 grns. (2022 fps.)
485 lead w/ Trail Boss - min.13 grns. (860 fps.), max. 19 grns. (962 fps).

How did it go for you?

I just picked up a Lyman 457125 and am planning on trying it in my 458Lott. Not sure how I'm going to load it yet, but I'll keep you posted on my progress.
