I shot the 458 African for the first time Friday. It’s fitted in a try-stock just for testing to see if it’s worthy of completion. After initial bore sighting and firing for scope set up, I was able to settle down with the ill fitting stock and shoot this 5 shot group at 100 yards. My load was a 500 gr Hornady with 75 gr of Reloader 15. Next I will try H4350 with North Fork Bullets and see how that works. If anyone has data for this cartridge please share it.

SkullKeeper, that is good shooting, but that being said I wouldn't expect anything else from you.

Just so you know, my QuickLoad software has the 458 African caliber in its' repertoire. I'd be happy to work up or check out some loads for you. Give me a shout if you'd like me to do that.

Yes sir - I’d very much like that ! Thank you sir !

Pierre Van der Walt writes about the 458 African in his book African Dangerous Game Cartridges. He lists loading data for bullets from 350 to 550 grains, but all of the loads are based on Somchem powders. May be difficult to find in USA.

Yes indeed , I have referenced that. Thank you sir.

With that flyer I would cut ties with it now and dump the barreled action for what you have in it. I’ll take the brass as well. You have my address. :-)

Seriously, looks like a winner to me. Good stuff!

Had an excellent classifieds transaction with JoninCO. A truly honest and standup member. I wouldn't hesitate at all to deal with him again. Thanks, J!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
