I have a question, which do you guys think would be a better choice. A Ruger guide gun in 416 Ruger or a CZ 550 in 416 Rigby. Thanks in advance for your answers

I own a guide gun so I am biased but I don't think you can go wrong between the two.

Well everyone on here knows I'm going to say the Guide Gun from Ruger! The gun is a beast and performs very well. Now I think the CZ can be purchased with stock upgrades which you can not get from Ruger! At first I did not care for the green and goldish stock color, but it grew on me fast.
Let's put it this way.....I now have three of the big five with that rifle and will not part with it. One day it will be handed down to Bryson! He has taken three African animals with it now so I dare say he will not part with it ever either.
I have not priced the CZ I. The 416 Rigby but I suspect the Ruger is more affordable. Fact, CZ makes a good gun.....so it will come down to which one feels the best in your hands.
My two cents worth!

FWIW, ammo is cheaper for the .416 Ruger.

I owned a CZ550 in 375HH American Stock, I'd imagine the 416 Rigby would shoot just as good, it also holds more rounds

I had a CZ in .416 Rigby and it was stupid accurate with H4831 behind all sorts of bullets.......but fully loaded it makes a mule's kick seem like a light tap on the shoulder.

What, no love for the 416 Taylor or the 416 Remington.:(

:A Popcorn:

I'm a hand loader, but I didn't think about the price of ammunition for factory loads. 416 Rigby box of 20 $180

they are not even close to being similar rifles , the CZ has a magnum action and the Ruger a standard action , I have both as well as the 416 Rem .

my personal choice and IMHO my favorite is the 416 rem .

I also don't think that with modern day powders you can come close to filling the Rigby case , so therefore I would go with the 416 Rem.

I also forgot to add , the 416 caliber is an amazing caliber , and hits hard with authority.

good luck.

The only reason I know that is that I was looking at a CZ back at the beginning of the year in .416 Rigby......I started pricing components and factory ammo, and decided to go with the .375 H&H I got instead. Glad I did, as the .375 kicks the crap outa me, so I can just imagine what the .416 would do!

So you guys are saying there might actually exist other .416 cartridges, besides the Rigby ?

Seriously though, in factory loads or hand-loaded equivalent, any of the .416's will evidently do pretty much the same as the next version will.

The reason I prefer the original Rigby version is primarily nostalgia / history but also, ammunition availability when in Africa.

(I have no plan to take mine to Africa at this stage so ammunition availability for me is a meaningless reason).

There's the 416 Hoffman also, but I think it's just about like the 416 Remington

Larry,

There are too many choices regarding the 416 for a simple mind like mine.:( That's why I have a 404. Only one choice.

All the best in your selection. Which ever way you go, may it supply you with decades of enjoyment.(y)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.

Have twice tried to post something that your site canned as "SPAM" or some problem.. "Contact the Administrator"... Not sure why even the "Contact" button would not send my comment so you only received my query but not the content in question. I'll see if I can get it to you this way... NOPE I use a VPN and perhaps that is causing me grief...
