I am new to the forum. I just purchased a 416 Rigby which is due here early next week. Thank you Braids Guns… Camby, Indiana. Now I’m starting to realize the problem of ammo. Does anyone have any 416 rigby ammo for sale. I’m not looking for solids, but if I can’t find anything else, Solids to work. I also have only loaded shotgun ammo previously. But it sounds like, I need to start looking at reloading the 416 possibly…IDK????

Congratulations on the .416 Rigby! Ammo is a real pain in the ass right now, if you can find it. Even reloading components are almost unobtainium. I am lucky that my rifle is most accurate with the I guess cheapest ammo, Hornady DGX. So far I have been unable to load anything more accurate due to lack of primers and bullets. The price of even those has almost double in the last year.

All I know is that I love the .416 Rigby and I wish I had bought one 30 years ago.

That’s what I’m starting to see, I would even like to start to get into reloading, the interesting thing is I’ve never reloaded anything other than shotgun shells, so reloading is not a new concept, but I’m sure it’s completely different in the rifle area. Do you have any tips or tricks, or information in regards to reloading?

I would refer you to the manuals produced by the powder and bullet manufacturers. And there are some great YouTube videos out there. I mostly reload handgun ammo (.45 Colt, .44 Special, .357 Magnum, 9mm) and I learned most by reading (which is how I learn best) and by watching how it was done by others.

If you already reload shotshells you have the basics in hand so I would suppose that you could transition to rifle rounds fairly easy.

Thank you sir, good place to start

I wish it could be more but I am not an adventurous loader. I worked on a while on getting a good black powder load for my .45 Colt and a real hot 180 grain bullet .357 Magnum load for a Desert Eagle.

After I had a .41 Magnum Blackhawk explode in my hand I stopped trying to push the envelope and have since been rather conservative in my loads and I rarely go past whatever load gives the best accuracy.

I also rarely share load data because the round that blew up that Blackhawk was loaded to a recipe that I received from a close friend who had fired several hundred rounds of that load in his .41 Magnum Smith and Wesson with no problems. It really bothered him and I really don't want to have this happen to someone else with my data.

Firstly buy quality dies. I've had good results with Reloader 19, 22 and 25 when using woodleigh 410gr softs and solids. Fantastic cartridge and not difficult to reload

Awesome, glad to hear it gives me a place to start. How many times can you reuse the brass on average?

Not sure. Current batch has been reloaded 4 times with no sign of problems

Hendershots custom ammo may be a decent place to attempt to get some ammo, last time I looked there they didn't seem to be gouging, but these companies are suffering to get components and such as well, so I don't know what's available or how long the wait.

But that may be a decent option while you also look for reloading components, especially because then you'll have some once fired brass too.

Hendershots or Choice ammo can help if they have the components and you have enough time to wait for their lead times. I might be able to help as I stocked up expecting to use my 416 Rigby this summer but instead I am taking my double (450/400). I have the following, with photos below:
70 Barnes 400 gr banded solids
40 400g Cutting Edge Safari solids (loaded by Choice ammo)
120 Barnes 400gr TSX (loaded by Hendershots)

I can let these go for what I paid for them plus shipping. Let me know and I’ll look up the prices.

Very interested. What would you want for the entire lot of them?

Let me find out what I paid for them and PM you today.

Small Local store has 1 box of Hornady solids for 124.99 if you are interested. They got it by mistake in an order.

Also, they can order Barnes tsx from their distributor. Their warehouse is showing 60 boxes in stock.

Let me know and I can get you to the right person

I just bought a box of Federal Swift-A frames directly from Federal online. Expensive, but at least I have 20 rounds.

Swift bullet company has A-Frames for half the Federal Premium price...

After a long wait, Barnes 416 Rigby ammo is available from several distributors listed on Ammo Seek.

Safe shooting.

Had an excellent classifieds transaction with JoninCO. A truly honest and standup member. I wouldn't hesitate at all to deal with him again. Thanks, J!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
