Ive been thinking of turning my CZ550 in 375 into a 416 Rem Mag.

So I would have a 23" factory profile barrel made with the integral open sight island so I can keep the original CZ550 open sights with a better front sight blade than the factory one.

Only other inclusion would be a barrel band.

The stock will be slimmed down and refinished, forend shortened and a Kickeze magnum recoil pad fitted.

The advantage of the 416 Rem Mag for me is, less recoil than the 416 Rigby, and I like that the magazine easily takes 5 down with no work to the original 375 magazine box.. Also no bolt face opening required , maybe just a bit of work on the feed ramp.

Anyone tried a 416 Rem Mag in the CZ and if so were there any problems or challenges?

I think I would look for one already chambered in .416 REM from CZ before spending money on the barrel swap etc. good luck.

I agree with your logic that the 416 Remington is a more functional cartridge than the older Rigby version. With today's temperature stable powders, the 416 Rem is perfectly functional for polar bears or the Zambezi in November! Plus the smaller diameter case allows more rounds in the magazine.

Maybe one could find a CZ 550 in 416 Rem, maybe but it's been searched for in this thread;

If one did find a 416 Rem CZ 550, the barrel will need to be shortened, the sight moved and reinstalled, a band swivel installed, and probably re-blued. I agree with the OP, just rebarrel the 375 rifle in the length, contour, and weight one desires!

In full disclosure, I have the same .375 hiding in my safe for which I've had the same thought...

Thanks for the input gents - Ive never seen a 416 rem mag in a 550 here in Australia unfortunately.

I shall give it some thought.

If you buy a CZ550, I would look for one in 416 Rigby which is arguably a better round and would require no modifications
