I was wondering what everyone opinion of the newer dgx bonded bullet is? I have the equipment to reload and when i do I'll either go with 350gr ttsx, woodleigh, partitions and/or swift a frames, but i currently do not have the time to spare on building new loads nor the space to do it in.

So I'm stuck with the choices of factory loads between fed premium with 400gr swifts (which the rifle currently shoots great) that are 135 a box and not readily available here in Fairbanks, or hornady dgx bonded which is 95 a box and there's a "surplus" of (apparently no one else shoots 416 rem locally or they all handload). I'd like to use the hornady to save some cash in the long run if they group as well as the swifts AND if they will perform well on moose and grizzly sized game.

What's everyones thoughts on the dgx bonded? I have no problem spending the bit extra for swifts if its absolutely necessary but the availability bothers me due to me having an addiction to the range lol

I shot a cape buff with 375H&H DGX and inspected them after digging them out. They performed as advertised. I never had issues with accuracy in range practice from 200 and in. I think if 95/box means you can practice more I would shoot them confidently for moose and bear. 400 grains properly placed is a lot of bullet.

Thats more or less what I was thinking

I’ve only shot a medium sized wild boar with one - I know, silly calibre for the job but I had to try the gun out on something. It killed it leaving a fairly dramatic wound channel and a large exit hole. Projectile was not recovered but it smashed through both shoulders without leaving much behind so obviously it held together. Not much of a test I know but by comparison 30cal 165gr game kings break into pieces on a shot like that.

I've used the Hornady DGX Bonded a lot in my 375H&H for brumbies and scrub bulls. Awesome bullet I love the DGX bonded, I've used factory ammo and reloaded them myself as well. I also use Swift A-Frames quite a bit so I put them to the test one day side by side. If you are going to use them for moose and bear I would choose the DGX Bonded over the Swift A-frame, my experience in the field with his bullet has shown me I get a bit more expansion with the DGX Bonded over the A-frame on thinner skinned game.

I literally just read your post about your tests! Haha i need to get some water jugs to do some tests too

I have trialled the 500 grain Hornady DGX Bonded soft nosed factory loads in my .458 Winchester Magnum , and I found absolutely no reason to complain about it’s performance . It is light years ahead ( in terms of ballistic performance ) of the old cup & core style Hornady DGX . It mushroomed perfectly when employed against an Asian sloth bear and Axis stags .

Nevertheless , I personally prefer Federal’s Trophy Bonded Bear Claw 500 grain soft nosed factory load and the Nosler Partition 500 grain soft nosed factory load for the .458 Winchester Magnum .
