404 Jeffery based on a 98 Mauser Magnum Single Square Bridge action. The barrel is 26-7/8" long from receiver face, 27-3/4" OAL. Bore is as new condition. The top of the barrel is marked E. Atkinson, Astoria OR. One standing, three folding leaf express rear sight on an island rear sight base. Barrel band sling swivel and EGW barrel band front sight with ramp and removable sight hood. The front sight blade is also removable. Cocking piece rear peep sight that adjusts up and down for elevation as well as left and right for windage. Blackburn billet magnum bottom metal with hinged floor plate. Niedner blued bolt release spring. The trigger is also Niedner blued. Twin metal cross bolts, single screw metal grip cap and rear sling swivel stud. All metal, with the exception of the bolt release spring and the Mauser factory two stage trigger, is rust blued.

Very nicely figured, oil finished, walnut stock with a good amount of fiddleback and iridescent shimmer in the butt area. Silvers recoil pad (London Guns) with Widows peak. Perfectly proportioned and shaped shadow line cheekpiece. The forend is capped with Ebony tip wood. Checkering is exceptionally well executed and features Mullered borders. Length of pull to the center of the recoil pad is 13-3/4".

The magazine box holds 5 rounds down. 5+1 setup. The rifle feeds flawlessly. Weight is 9 lbs 0.4 ounces. Here is an opportunity to acquire a perfectly executed 404 Jeffery dangerous game rifle based on an original Magnum Mauser Single Squared Bridge action. $12,500 plus insured shipping or FTF pickup. PM me if you have any questions.

Barrel is about 4 inches too long for this cartridge ….. but dang otherwise, whata beautiful rife.
Double Dang.

Looks top quality in all respects: fab wood work, large straight bolt like the old Rigbys, top fit and finish, bbl band and qtr rib leaves.....plus in the most desirable caliber as well. You do have some fine firearms @Esoteric Junkie and are to be congratulated....firearms of this quality are what some would call "gun porn"...(but then I suspect you'd have to change your name to erotic junkie). Anyway, beautiful rifle well worth the price.....FWB

“Good luck with the sale”
Ah.
Thanks.
Old geezers like me don’t always get what’s abbreviated .
Fact is, old geezers like me don’t always get what’s going on around us in general.:ROFLMAO:

What is the vintage of the gun? I am not acquainted with a gunsmith in Astoria, Oregon by the name of Atkinson. I live just north of Astoria and am pretty well acquainted with local talent.

I believe this is an Ernie Atkinson and Scott King rifle. The story goes that there was a group of six gunsmiths and stockers who got together and made a number of Mauser actioned big bore rifles in the 1980’s. If you search google you can learn more.

Beautiful there will be a happy buyer in the future. Wonderful gun in a exceptional caliber. Thanks for allowing us to enjoy a fine weapon.

And once again, a simply simply lovely rifle up for sale but I have gone and got my next big cal. Best of luck with the sale.

PS love the peep sight

You can always tell a true wuality rifle by the accuracy of the checkering. In this case it is tops. I am surprised this rifle is going for so little, it is worth more.

Price reduced to move. $8500 plus shipping and insurance to your FFL.

This is likely the best deal on a PROPER .404 Jeffery caliber (real live square bridge, Magnum Mauser) anywhere in the free world today.
Just wow.
