What are you 375 Ruger guys using for an accurate load? I have tried 250 and 270 aframes, h4350 and staball6.5 and cci250. Best group is 1.4 at 100yds with 79 h4350 and 270 aframe. Getting 2568fps (Labradar) would prefer 2700fps but my groups open up to 2.5” at that velocity With both powders. I m going Moose hunting this fall and would prefer the 270 grain bullet.

Anybody got a magic load for their 375 Ruger?

thanks

My 375 Ruger has a 23 inch barrel. I mainly shoot 300 gr Swift A-Frames and get 2500+fps using H4350 and Federal 215 primers.

About a year or so ago, I shot some Hornady 250 GMX factory ammo over my MagnetoSpeed and was quite impressed. 2800 fps and SD of 8.8. The POI was several inches high compared to my 300 gr SAF, so I really haven't fooled with them much. If I was to shoot something lighter, I go to the 338 WM.

Where are you going moose hunting? I went to Alaska last year, with the 338 WM, and took a nice moose. Tough hunt though, weather was miserable.

Going to the Yukon. I’ve seen some of those new Hornady CX in 250 grain are available. Thinking a mono might be more accurate, but I get good accuracy out of the swifts in my 375 handh and 416 rigby. I may try some 300 grain a frames. What kinda accuracy are you getting? Thanks

My custom 375ruger 26" shilen select match ss bbl likes 82.5gr Hyb100v with barnes 250gr ttsx at 2900fps 0.75moa at 100yds and 300yds. Also likes factory Hornady 250gr CX ammo. Took Maine bull Moose hunting but didn't get a shot opportunity.

Less speed means less overpenetratrion. Each bullet has a upper and lower limit for it's proper performance - be aware of this - the guy in New Zealand - Nathan at Terminal Ballistics Research - goes through each company's projectile for your cartridge and lays this out.

Yes, I want the bullet to go through the vitals, but not wound/piss off the next buffalo.

Look for the harmonic nodes, not XXXX FPS.

I am away from home, but can share with you, when I get home, what Shootist43 cooked up for me in QuickLoad. I have the 20" Alaskan and shot 270gr on my safari in '21.

That would be great. Thanks

I do ladder tests and then seating depth to find most accurate repeatable 3 shot groups at 100 and 300yds. Shoot f class matches to 1000yds. Quickload helps but the barrel tells you what it likes for bullet brand and weight. Practice improves shot placement with a good load. We all want an ethical harvest of the game animals we hunt.

Right at 1 inch. Good enough for any hunting situation I can envision with this rifle, most likely 200 yards or less.

Who are you hunting with in the Yukon? I did a Dall sheep hunt with Dickson Outfitters and it was a fantastic experience. If your schedule allows, spend an extra day or two in Whitehorse.

With Swift A Frames, I don't play with seating depths at all. H4350 and A Frames just seem to go together well. I'll do a shot ladder and very quickly find a node in the velocity range I am looking for. Very low SD and ES. I just seat the bullets at the COAL recommended in the Swift manual and do a light crimp in the groove.

My primary load is the 275/300 gr CEB TSG Raptor/Solid Combo on 71 grains of RL-15, F215, at ~2600ft. Shoots bug holes under .5 inch at 50-75yrds. Shot out of an accurized Ruger African.

I agree. 1 inch is good and I’m not far off that. I am thinking sub 200 yds on the Moose too, but might get a little longer shot on a wolf.
Hunting with Yukon Peak. Any suggestions on things to do and places to eat in Whitehorse?

Yukon Peak is Unit 11 and Dickson is Unit 10, just to the west of 11. Great area.

My Alaskan moose was 226 yards, luckily moose are very large targets!

I spoke to Dickson last year when we booked. They were booked out for a year or two.

Thanks for the info. what length barrel do you have?

@Tommy_Fontaine your Chrono data is somewhat puzzling to me. With a group size of 0.61 inches, from a 3 shot group, certainly everyone would be happy with that in a hunting rifle. However, the part that puzzles me is the SD of 24.50 and the ES of 49. Those data points aren't very impressive. I have found that using H4350, it is relatively quick and easy to obtain SD of less than 10 and ES less than 20. Of course many people will say a 3 shot group is not statistically significant. Another puzzling thing is that you are neck sizing.

Erik Cortina is a well known competitive shooter and has an interesting Youtube channel on reloading for super accuracy and he is passionate about not neck sizing.

375 Ruger Fan,

Thanks for the information I may pass it on to somebody who's interested in target shooting, but I wasn't posting information to impress anyone just to help Buck51 get some data. Honestly I'd be happy with those variables double in size. As long as I hit where I'm aiming for which has been the case for the last 400 rounds out of the rifle then I'm a happy man.

I've shot the Hornady factory loads in my 375 Ruger Hawkeye African. 300 GR solids, 300 GR DGX, and 250 GMX all hit within an inch at 100 yards. I've had excellent accuracy with all 3. I would stay away from Hornady's 270 GR spire point. Way too soft for what a 375 is used for.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
