I ve seen some old posts on this combo and it has not been good. As I said they were old posts and was wondering from our pros and hunters here if anyone has any current bullet performance from Hornady specifically on the 375 Ruger on game like buffalo. I m planning to hunt buff in the near future and was wondering if I needed to reach out to suppliers like Superior ammo to load either Barnes or a frame etc ammo. I know Hornady now has the superformance line but not sure if that makes a difference.

Johnny I can't speak for the 375 ruger but.... The terminal ballistics testing :sneaky: I've done with my 416 ruger using hornady DGX and DGS on large wild hogs has been quite impressive. The DGX will completely jello the insides of a 250lb hog. The DGS does a lot of damage to major skeletal groups and will pass through several and keep going.

Hi Eric, yes it supposedly performs well on game up to brown bear etc, but a lot of old reports don't like it on buffalo. I was wondering if anyone has used them recently on buff. I really like the accuracy at the range and since I dont reload I would have to buy ammo from someone like superior ammo. Expensive but thats not the issue, Just I find it hard to believe Hornady would not correct and issues with their ammo considering it labeled for dangerous game.

Idk. I'm a hornady fan and I do reload but I still use their bullets when I reload. I let ya know how mine does on buff here in about 2 months. I've heard tons of good stuff about the 375 ruger. I think it boils down to personal preference. My ph told me that they've used the 375 and 416 ruger on everything up to and including elephant with no probs. I know that proally doesn't help much.

I look forward to your report. Not only on your success but help us all out on bullet performance. Take lots of pictures. Can't wait till I leave. Four more months

Thanks man and good luck to you. I try to get recovered bullet from as many things as I can and take pics.

I used Hornady DGS's in my 375 Ruger on a buff 2 years ago. I hit him with a Woodleigh soft first and then finished him with the Hornady solids. I hit him with 4 of them and only recovered 2, the ones I recovered looked like new except for the rifling marks on them. Can't tell you about the DGX bullets cause I read the reviews too and decided on the Woodleigh's instead.

I know what you mean on the DGS.. May to have Superior Ammo load up some swift a frame or Barnes ammo. I ll make that decision next year, I would like to do a lion hunt first depending where import goes. I hear the DGX is good on cats.

I would think they would be great cat medicine. I just didn't want to take the chance with it on a buff. Good luck with whatever you decide to use. Maybe one day you will decide to start hand loading, then things will get real interesting for you.

Curious...was there much of a difference on paper (accuracy) between the 2 bullets? In other words where did the group from each other?

There was not enough difference between the two loads to worry about. I think it was like 1 inch at fifty yards.

Thanks.

Your welcome jb, maybe I should throw in the usual disclaimer. These were our results, your personal results may vary. Seriously though, they worked the same in my son's rifle as they did in mine. I have a Ruger Alaskan .375 Ruger and he has a Hawkeye .375 Ruger, Mine's stainless and his has the bolt on the wrong side but none of that seemed to matter.

Appreciate it...Guess if I decide on Buff I may have to look into an alternative to the DGS bullets. Just too many bad reports. As you said and as jaco said they will work fine on a cat.

Well you have some options to choose from and they are all tried and true. I did read a while back that Hornady was working on the bullet jacket on the DGX thickening it or making it tougher to control the expansion a little better. Don't know if anything came from it or not. I wish they would if they didn't, I really like their bullets.

I emailed them today for some sort of response on the DGX and asked exactly that question...have you improved on the DGX

Please share with us what they tell you.

Just got off the phone with Dustin from Hornady. Of course he said they have heard of no complaints on the DGX and they have made NO improvements to it.

That's the same thing they said a couple of years ago. Oh well at least they gave you an answer. I Guess you know what you have to do now.

Took the words right out of my mouth. When I hung up I said out loud I won't be shooting a DGX on a buff for the first shot for sure.

Do you have any cull hunts available? 7 days, daily rate plus per animal price?
