Got this left handed 375 Ruger African on gunbroker NIB for $700 a few years ago and had a fun time building my first 375.

1. Sent to pre64win.com to fully glass bed, install red 1” red decelerator recoil pad, and strip the factor clear coat off the stock and replace with an oil finish.
2. Installed Alaska Arms extended magazine and QD scope rings
3. Found the perfect Leupold VX6 2-12 (pre obnoxious scope turrets) on this forum.
4. I cycled the action about 500 times a bit dirty with some oil and I had become the smoothest cycling Hawkeye that I have handled.
5. I got lucky and the factory trigger breaks at 3 pounds with zero creep.
6. I believe the rifle weighs about 9.5 pounds scoped and is well balanced and carry’s very well.

Took it to the range this weekend and got it zeroed with hornady 250 grain CX, 1.5” high at 100 yards. Was pleased to see the 300 grain DGX load shoots only 1.5” low using the same zero. If I do my part this rifle seems to shoot 1 moa.

Ammo results with 23” barrel (I will of course be taking the muzzle break off before heading out on a DG hunt)
Hornady 250 grain CX: box says “2800fps” I averaged 2705fps
Hornady 300 grain DGX (old stock non bonded) box says “2660” and I averaged 2625

In have Safari Arms loading me some 300gr TSX and 300gr cutting edge solids now.

Alaska Arms extended floor plate gets mag capacity up to 4 rounds, was super easy to install, fit without any modifications, and it cycles perfectly. Their QD scope rings are the best I have found for Ruger’s and actually do return back to zero (within about .5”)when I took the scope off between shots.

Overall very happy with how the rifle turned out/functions/feels/shoots and am exited to take it on a buffalo hunt in the next few years and in the mean time I’m going to load up some 260 grain Accubonds and take it on an elk hunt!

Very nicely done…great accuracy!!! You made this gun truly yours in every way! Looking forward to some great reports hunting with it!!!

Thanks for the project report. I have an extended floor plate inbound, so appreciated hearing your positive experience with yours. My .375 Ruger Alaskan has the VX62-12x42 also. I think the Alaskan Arms QD rings are in my future also.

Now - practice, practice, practice!!!!

As a fellow lefty, I must say, there a nice looking rifle you’ve built. Congrats. I’m sure it will serve you well.
