I'm looking to load up some 235 gr 375H&H loads for some fun at the range. I have a good amount of W748 and would like to use that if I can, but I can't find any load data. From it's burn rate it appears that it would be a decent powder to use. Does anyone have any load data or experience using W748 with a 235 gr. bullet?

Best regards,

I don't, but there are several people on here that are very generous with their time running load data for other, I suspect when they log on tomorrow, someone will be able to help you out. Best of luck.

I,ll get down to the garage today and see if I still have some data you can use

I could find no published data but its burn is a bit slower than IMR3031 and there is plenty of data available for that powder. Like you I think it should work fine and would not hesitate to start by using the 3031 data and carefully work up a load. One other suggestion is to call the tech support line at Speer and ask them. I have done that with Sierra and they were very helpful. Good luck.

Same here best load data I have for 235g bullets are with Win760 sorry

I just thought about something, I seem to remember reading about a PH on the forum that uses a 375 loaded with 235s.

If all else fails, moving up to 250s will get great results

check of my winchester manual shows 748 but they only list in the 375H&H for 270 & 300 gr bullets. At an NRA convention about 40 years ago I talked with the Winchester rep and he said that in the 375H&H they used IMR4064, which is just slightly slower than 748, so considering the 235 gr bullet is lighter than the 270,300s, it would seem that 748 would be a very workable powder for the 375H&H.

Hello Monsai,

As reference, Barnes list for 235 TSX bullet in the 375 H&H

W748 Min 76.7gr 2805 f/s - Max 85.2gr C 3051 f/s
H4895 Min 67.0gr 2732 f/s - Max 74.5gr 2946 f/s
IMR 4895 Min 71.1gr 2755 f/s - Max 79.0gr C 2998 f/s
Varget Min 70.7gr 2736 f/s - Max78.6gr C 2973 f/s
RL 15 Min 73.4gr 2757 f/s Max 81.5gr C 3001 f/s

In my experience with W 748 vs. R15 in my 375 and my 9,3x62, both great powders for them, in the lots I have, W748 is 4 and 2 gr slower, respectively, than the R15 for practically same velocities, being all other things the same.

Good luck

CF

Be very careful using Barnes data for “regular” bullets-woodleigh 235 for example. I use both Barnes and woodleigh 235’s but in a .375 WBY. Barnes gets the nod for accuracy but that’s just my rifle!
I’ll echo the above advice-contact the manufacturer of your chosen bulllet and ask them for their recommendations. I’ve found that e mail works best. Good luck, I know why you are using that powder but it doesn’t seem to have much popularity in this particular loading. . .

Thanks for all the information and suggestions. The 235grs that I have are Speer, so I contacted Speer to see if they had any 748 load info. No 748 data, but the gentleman that I spoke with did agree that due to the burn rate it should be decent choice for that bullet.

I'm just loading these for some fun range/practice loads, so not looking for anything hot, so I'll probably start some load development in 70 - 72 gr level and see how that works.

Best regards,

Hi Monsai,

One more thing. In my experience, data for R15 can be used for W748 in the 375 H&H, 9,3x62 and similar cartridges.

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!
