I have a Chapuis ejector 450-400 double. Just got back from Mozambique where it took two nice cape buff and two bushbuck.

I’m thinking about a set of 20g or 28g barrels for it, if they exist and can be added?

Does anyone have smooth bore barrels for their double rifle? Actually use them? How do the balance?

I do not own one currently, but I shot a fair amount with a Browning Superposed with a set of 20 gauge and a set of 9.3x74R barrels in France way back when.

Using smooth bore barrels on a double typically works great, unless you have a permanently installed kickstop in the stock, in which case the shotgun configuration is butt heavy.

Shooting running-rabbit clay with the shotgun barrels will tremendously improve your short range "instinctive" shooting with your 450/400 barrels. It made me quite deadly on running wild boars in those days.

I would personally select 20 gauge barrels as 28 g ammo is pretty hard to find, even in USA/Europe, never mind Africa...

I am not aware of Chapuis selling combo rifles with twin sets rifled barrels/smooth barrels as a standard offering like Krieghoff or Heym do. I expect that Chapuis will happily custom install a set for you, but you will have to return the rifle to them and I would not be surprised if a bit of sticker shock applied....

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
