Totally agree, you may pay a little more but it will save you down the road. same thing with every other aspect of a safari.

Not the ph for me, would never hunt with someone trying to shoot a movie on my time. For those who’ve hunted TZ you have to cover ground. No time for a production

    Trophy Import issues into Canada

In terms of paperwork yes absolutely, but more importantly time. Trophies being here 6 months from harvest definitely takes the edge off. I know people who have let their trophies sit a year or more overseas and they had damage on their hides or trophies be non-mountable due to. Even if the bill...

    Trophy Import issues into Canada

I have to respectfully disagree with you here. All my trophies have been imported through Toronto and cleared successfully (by professionals not me). IMO not worth the hassle, headache, or more importantly risk of mistake and losing a valued trophy.

Has Anyone Ever Shipped a Full Mount Croc?

That's going to be a very long and heavy crate. You'll save getting it mounted in SA but your shipping + crating costs will probably make it the same or maybe even more.

    Any members in Western Canada?

Would not recommend getting taxidermy done in Africa for two reasons: lower quality & significantly increase your shipping cost. Cargo is generally handled roughly - would never ship a finished prized / breakable piece. The trade off isn’t worth it IMO. For importation of trophies hire a...

Agree with this, you can have the largest bore in the world but if you can't shoot it comfortably it's almost useless in those moments (regardless of the ballistics).

Hunting Asia: Tajikistan vs Kyrgyzstan vs Kazakhstan vs Mongolia

    - Cost to value is a hard metric. That heavily depends on what you would like to hunt and are looking for. There's a big price gap between sheep and ibex. Ibex hunting is relatively inexpensive for a mountain hunt. Terrain is difficult in all asian ibex hunting. - All travel to Asia is long...

What scope do you trust? Most rugged, dependable rifle scope?

Very interesting, meaning you send more vortex back than anything? Warranty is great but it's no use when your optics break in the middle of a hunt.

    Let's talk Ibex hunting

Have experience in both countries. Air travel is very lengthy to either country and comparable in time as they aren't far from each other. The trip from airports to camp ultimately depends on what area you're hunting and what you're hunting for in general. One time we rode a full day to a remote...

agree with this, they are different styles and present their own challenges. not for the faint of heart that's for-sure. The one common part is you need to be comfortable shooting at very long distances and know your rifle/optics accordingly.

What is your success rate as a client hunting leopards?

What caliber were you using, assuming the bullet passed through? Good advice, things can go real side-ways in a moment of chaos. I guess the Leopard responded to your question in full! The noises they produce really get my heart going in the moment. Haha exciting is one way to describe it...

What is your success rate as a client hunting leopards?

thanks for the info, that's a long time to get back your trophy and it's unfortunate even with a dip and pack it still rotted out. I know there are other factors that play into timeline but definitely more motivation to get any trophy shipment back faster. Skinning jobs can be dicey at times...

What is your success rate as a client hunting leopards?

Sorry to hear about the unfortunate outcome of your skin. That's pretty bad, do you think it was the skinning job and lack of salting or the D&P storage facilities themselves? I've been to a number of them and can't imagine my trophies sitting there for a long period. Can you please share (or...

    Dip and packing information

Costs would depend on what you're doing to your trophies and what they are. For example a full giraffe would cost more than a duiker. Would not recommend having your work done or any tanning in RSA. IMO quality of work is not there and it just looks terrible. As noted above shipping costs are...

    Highveld Taxidermy experience?

It really depends on what you're having done but it can especially with life-sized, pedestal, or just a lot of shoulder mounts in general. Everything is bigger shipping mounts from the packing, crate size, to weight which all has to be factored in. Side note mounts aren't exactly sturdy and...

    Highveld Taxidermy experience?

Would recommend having your work done in the states. Higher quality all day long. Even more concerning is freight rates these days. Shipping mounts will be a lot more expensive. Guessing savings achieved would mostly be eliminated (if not all) in shipping/freight costs. All depends on what...

    Blaser R8 Alberta

did you ever decide on the R8? They are solid, and you do need time to get used to the action and safety. Sauer are another great choice. On a 375 would recommend staying away from anything to "light weighted".

Perfect Rifle for Eland and Lion

They are all great calibers. Would agree with the above. The 375HH would be the best balance and choice for both of the species you seek. The 470 would put a big dent on either of those but definitely not required. As always your comfort shooting these calibers and shot placement will matter...

    Let's talk Ibex hunting

Have hunted mid-asian ibex. It depends on the type of hunt you are looking for. Asia is remote, the mountains are very high, and in my opinion for someone looking for an "adventure". I would rate the hunt for a mid-asian ibex hunt in the stans as difficult but rewarding.
