Thinking about a .300 win mag

Thanks for the info, Bob. Wow! 4,000 ft/lbs. Of energy, that's a big wallop on just about anything. Especially here in North America. That should be more than enough for Eland or, for that matter, anything I'm going to hunt. I'll have to do some research on how much a new barrel will cost...

Thinking about a .300 win mag

I haven't heard enough about the 35 Whelen to have an educated opinion about it. Is it basically a necked-up 06 case?

My 06 is an older Savage 110. I got a good deal on it. It shoots real well.

Thinking about a .300 win mag

Hi Ryan! Thanks for the input. I currently own an older Savage 110 in 30-06. It's good to hear you took some of the animals that I have on my list with a 30-06. (Eland, Greater Kudu, Bushbuck, Nyala, Impala, and Springbok. And if I have time, Zebra.) I'm planning on a 10–14-day hunt. I'll have...

What a great "after-action" report. I almost felt I was there with you and the rest of your party. Awesome animals! Especially the Impala and Kudu Bull. I can't wait to read about the rest of the hunt.

SOUTH AFRICA: KoringKoppie Hunting Safaris *Warning* Stay Away

I don't usually post because I'm new on this site. However, I appreciate your post. I'm planning my hunt for 2026. I have been talking to outfitters from whom I can get reviews. I'm sorry to hear you had such a horrible experience, especially with your girlfriend being with you.

    Hello from Southeast Texas

Hooah! I'm a grunt myself. I live in a little town called Silsbee just north of Beaumont. I like that plan. It would be good to talk to a fellow grunt and talk hunting.

    Hello from Southeast Texas

Thanks for the welcome! I do love meat. I am looking forward to trying meat from each one of the animals I harvest. I will definitely have to try some of the biltong. I enjoy trying new foods and experiences, which was the best part of my deployments.

    Hello from Southeast Texas

I want to experience the culture and food of South Africa. I'm sure it is far different than anything that I've experienced so far in all my travels. (mainly to the Middle East and Germany). It should be very interesting.
