USA hunting options for non- Americans?

Roger, From the perspective of a Kiwi who has hunted several times in the USA with my own rifle, it is certainly doable as long as you don't mind the complex procedure for a permit. Applications should be made weeks in advance of travel dates although once an application is sent approval is sent...

ZIMBABWE: Zim Isn't For Sissies! Leopard

You're not alone. I've been humbled too but on different game. Never hunted Leopard which are acknowledged for unpredictable results. As hunters we all want success but need to remember if we are genuine, honest hunters that sometimes nature will hold the winning hand. I remind myself that's...

    Let's see some Bosses!

Just amazing quality with all these bulls. You guys are making my heart ache for the heat and the chase. Thanks to all of you for your pics and part of your fond memories. There's nobody luckier than the hunter who has honestly pursued one of these beasts, nature's gift to those of us who live...

    How much do you practice?

Apart from April thus year due to an ongojng bathroom renovation I usually get out weekly shooting a 243W for Hares, Rabbits and other pests and using from 1 to 6 shots. And every 3 to 4 weeks I would be out Deer hunting mostly using a 30.06 for 1 to 4 shots average. Actual range shooting would...

I shouldn't have opened this thread. Dammit ! So many wonderful bulls and I can't get enough. Now I'll be dreaming and scheming all afternoon instead of concentrating on what I should be doing.

Wow, that must have been a fabulous hunt. Four great buff there. I'm admiring that with envy !

Only One Cartridge for Buffalo + Big Antelopes

I chose 375 H&H as only one vote is allowed. But, equally, I would hunt with the 375 Ruger and would like to have included that in my vote.

Large magnum rifle primers - brand preference?

Sorry, haven't read this entire thread but can offer some use experience on White River primers. Here in NZ we had the same primer shortage nightmare and I had to resort to any alternative when my preferred Federals were unavailable. So far I have used only WR LR primers in mostly Norma brass...

Definitely NOT Hornady One Shot ! Plenty of optimal products. Apart from the above maybe a lube containing a little Teflon also ?

Want To Buy Leupold VX 6HD 1-6 x 24 Firedot

If needed you can always quickly adjust the focus ring on the Patrol scope to more exactly see your aim point. Not the same as adjusting parallax but still helpful on a smaller sized target. I do this myself but never felt deficjent with no parallax adjustment on my scope. My longest shots are...

CZ 550 Buy. How bad did I just mess up?

Great discussion in this thread. If this comment helps, I don't own or use any .40 cal rifles after finding recoil breaching my tolerance levels. .375 cal is where I'm comfortable and where recoil tolerance limits out for me. But I took oppirtunities to shoot some different 40 cal rifles here...

What have you actually had stolen getting to, coming from or on safari?

Interesting. I wonder if there is some overall airline rule regarding tape ? Few years ago I transited through Dubai and was pulled aside for a random Customs inspection of my carryon. Inside I had most of a Duct Tape roll after wrapping catches on a gun case. All very jovial and the nice...

What have you actually had stolen getting to, coming from or on safari?

Yes, agree fully. There are unlimited means by which baggage can be tampered with should certain individuals be dishonest enough, no matter how tough or secure luggage is. At the end of the day a proper system relies on the integrity and honesty of emoyees involved. In my case I don't believe...

What have you actually had stolen getting to, coming from or on safari?

A couple of years ago, traveling to Cameroon, I overnighted in Dubai. Repacked a little at the hotel and put a rangefinder into my unlocked suitcase instead of my carryon. Flew Ethiopian to Addis Ababa / Douala. The rangefinder was no longer there on arrival in Douala. I knew the bag had been...

    Case separation

Any brass not sized for correct headspace can eventually succumb to head separation. The number of firings before this occurs is relative to several factors of which brass quality is one. The brass I found most easily failing in this respect is Hornady. Not saying I have used absolutely every...

Carl Zeiss stops scope and binoc production 2026

Very well stated and 100% correct. A rising, new generation and their attitudes and beliefs are driving changes in our world. Commerce needs to identify where they can continue to remain relevant and adapt accordingly. Maybe it's coincidental but many of the newer, cost friendlier optics...

The Best Hunting Area in Africa

I have hunted only Namibia, Zimbabwe ( Zambezi Valley ), northern Cameroon. Anyone else having problems with CCI primers?

Have had FTF issues with CCI LR primers from a couple of different batches over the years. Only sorted the problem on the second occasion. As some have posted CCI primer cups are a harder material than other brands and require a sterner strike force for ignition. I FL size my brass and am...

    But how does it taste?

Only eaten Waerbuck once. Served as stew. Delicious. I have enjoyed most game meats I have eaten and I do like meat generally. I like to try meat from game I have hunted and shot. Something previously untried is always keenly anticipated. The only disappointments have been meats that had spoiled...

.375H&H Barrel length… what say you?

24 inches. I think my Blaser R93 barrel is 25 + inches but gives no more MV than my M70 with a 24 inch barrel. That's with Barnes TSX 300 gns.

A thorough conversation with Swarovski - Conclusion: Rookhawk knows nothing and is wrong about everything

Good idea and I kinda thought Swarovski might try something along these lines. They could go to their top twenty dealers asking them to take pre-orders, maybe with deposits, and do a production run with, say, 10% extra, to fill that order. Then repeat in 2 to 4 years or whatever interval they...

    cup point solids on game

A few years ago I killed a Buff in Zimbabwe with 300 TSX bullets from my 375 H&H In my belt were several rounds loaded with 300 g Cup Point Solids which I had not used while killing the Buff. I wanted to try one so from about 10 yds behind the Buff I fired one shot into the Buff through one of...

    TTHA Dallas

@Philip Glass Sir, thankyou for that info. Good to hear they did well and a great pity DSC seems to have taken a poor detour. BARNES BULLET'S WEIGHT WARNING

Whenever I open a new pack of bullets, regardless of calibre, I check weigh at least a few to ensure correct fit to specs. The only issue ever encountered was opening a pack of Hornady Interbond 30 cal bullets that were actually SST bullets that were the same as the labelled weight.

    375 Ruger

I have owned, and more recently started using, a 375 Ruger in Left Hand for a couple of years. Dande North is in the Valley. CMS has some nice camps there. You're right, October is usually hot. 375 Options

Even if you reload, as I do, practically the sole brass option currently available is Hornady made / brand brass. This brass is what I use to load ammo for my 375 Ruger. Powder & Primers on the shelf…..

@TnKen Depending on the calibre you shoot you might find H4831sc does the job. I shoot both a 300 Win Mag and 300 Blaser Mag and have found very close performance between these two powders. All my loads now use only H4831sc as it's a bit cheaper ( or was ) than RL22 and supplies have been more...

Powder & Primers on the shelf…..

@Bob Nelson 35Whelen A man after my own heart you are Mr Nelson. The shortages were awful for everybody. Powder & Primers on the shelf…..

@Bob Nelson 35Whelen I can't be too critical of ADI regarding common rifle powders. We had a phase here of no American or European powders being supplied for a year or so. Many shooters with favourite loads developed with these were left high and dry. But ADI, bless them, who I imagine were...
