A thorough conversation with Swarovski - Conclusion: Rookhawk knows nothing and is wrong about everything

Good idea and I kinda thought Swarovski might try something along these lines. They could go to their top twenty dealers asking them to take pre-orders, maybe with deposits, and do a production run with, say, 10% extra, to fill that order. Then repeat in 2 to 4 years or whatever interval they...

Has anyone heard Alliant is stopping sales of powder for reloading?

Yep, something fishy about this site now that I've had a look. Maybe I'm wrong but my gut tells me to steer clear. Looks too good to be true, unfortunately.

    Walkabout Safaris Water Buffalo Back

Tasteful. Even the missus could not disapprove. Goes to show not every hunting memento has to be a full shoulder mount. Congrats, again. A great buff. Do you know if the colours used are the genuine and traditional organic materials ?

    cup point solids on game

A few years ago I killed a Buff in Zimbabwe with 300 TSX bullets from my 375 H&H In my belt were several rounds loaded with 300 g Cup Point Solids which I had not used while killing the Buff. I wanted to try one so from about 10 yds behind the Buff I fired one shot into the Buff through one of...

    TTHA Dallas

@Philip Glass Sir, thankyou for that info. Good to hear they did well and a great pity DSC seems to have taken a poor detour. Can't argue that TTHA attendance costs are reasonable and I would agree they could see potential growth if some exhibitors are seriously looking for a DSC alternative. I...

    TTHA Dallas

@Philip Glass How did this TTHA show compare in size and exhibitor attendance to the last couple of DSC shows ? What was the entry cost per day, and for the full show ? If I'm not mistaken the venue interior looks to be the KBH convention floor .... ? Cheers

    BARNES BULLET'S WEIGHT WARNING

Whenever I open a new pack of bullets, regardless of calibre, I check weigh at least a few to ensure correct fit to specs. The only issue ever encountered was opening a pack of Hornady Interbond 30 cal bullets that were actually SST bullets that were the same as the labelled weight.

    375 Ruger

I have owned, and more recently started using, a 375 Ruger in Left Hand for a couple of years. I really like the Ruger M77 CRF actions and the Ruger company is one of those saintly manufacturere that makes good rifles for lefties. Manufactured in 2013 it has the excellent trigger used at that...

You might be right and there may be no internet sytem installed there. However, when there in August '23 I was able to get onto the net. There was something there that enabled me to connect once I installed an App on my phone. Maybe it was just a temporary thing that had been brought in by a...

    CMS safari

Dande North is in the Valley. CMS has some nice camps there. You're right, October is usually hot. Latest I've hunted was early Sept. which was definitely warm but heat there doesn't seem to affect me much. Due to low humidity I think, unlike Auckland region where I live which is very himid and...

I think you're in for a great hunt. I hope you're hunting from one of the camps in the Zambezi Valley. I just can't get tired of hunting there. Absolutely love it. A big factor in my initial booking with CMS was knowing a couple of Kiwis who had hunted there a couple of times before I went. That...

    375 Options

Even if you reload, as I do, practically the sole brass option currently available is Hornady made / brand brass. This brass is what I use to load ammo for my 375 Ruger. Sadly, brass quality is a bit lacking compared to other brands of higher repute. I simply don't get the brass life and have a...

Powder & Primers on the shelf…..

@TnKen Depending on the calibre you shoot you might find H4831sc does the job. I shoot both a 300 Win Mag and 300 Blaser Mag and have found very close performance between these two powders. All my loads now use only H4831sc as it's a bit cheaper ( or was ) than RL22 and supplies have been more...

Powder & Primers on the shelf…..

@Bob Nelson 35Whelen A man after my own heart you are Mr Nelson. The shortages were awful for everybody. And yes, some sought to take advantage by offering components for sale at exorbitant prices ( in my old fashioned opinion ) and while many complained I guess it's just market forces at work...

Powder & Primers on the shelf…..

@Bob Nelson 35Whelen I can't be too critical of ADI regarding common rifle powders. We had a phase here of no American or European powders being supplied for a year or so. Many shooters with favourite loads developed with these were left high and dry. But ADI, bless them, who I imagine were...

Powder & Primers on the shelf…..

We are somewhat behind this situation down here in New Zealand but it's good to see some level of normal returning for our American mates. We do catch up here eventually and there are signs here that this is coming. Just hoping it causes prices to drop a bit too. Especially primer costs.

    Ammo issue or rifle issue?

Could simply be a manufacturer loading brass of absolutely mimimum size specs, thus causing excess headspace and resultant light primer strikes. Something similar happened to me with a new Ruger Hawkeye, 375 Ruger with my own handloads using once fired brass. I FL sized the brass thinking I had...

What problems have you encountered with your Blaser R8?

Did he do this by toggling the thumb operated button / lever on the rear of the bolt ? Don't know about the R8 but if I did this on my R93 I would simply reinsert the bolt into the action, possibly also fully closing the bolt, and the safety on / off function, by toggling the button / lever...

    Best reticle for africa

I'm on board with all others here liking a simple, standard duplex or the German No. 4 I have used both, but only the duplex in Africa which I found perfect for everything. After Namibia announces, I guess now it's Zimbabwe's turn

I don't have sufficient insight or expertise to either counter your comments or conversely suggest a likely scenario. But you may well be right in what you say regarding Zim Parks track record, and I'll leave it there. I agree though that if PHs are involved to a greater degree then culling...

After Namibia announces, I guess now it's Zimbabwe's turn

If every Elephant culled was a big bull, middle aged and up, I agree it would be a negative, but possibly not ( too ) damaging to the overall population. I guess anything is possible but would imagine targeting only bulls is unlikely ... ? I would think the most efficient, expedient approach...

Hi @375Fox That's a fine hunt report, thanks, which revived happy memories of my own Dande hunt, with one of my sons, in 2016. NORMA 204 Equivalent? please help

@charlieB12345 Good info there from Firebird. Also, in burn rate comparison charts, Staball 6.5, which is also double based, sits very close to Norma 204. Currently I use Staball 6.5 in a favourite 375 H&H load and I have read of other getting good results in other calibres. Staball 6.5 seems...

After Namibia announces, I guess now it's Zimbabwe's turn

200 Elephants culled won't even be noticeable from Zim's overall population. In some areas of Zim a higher take than that is easily justifiable and should be sustained as otherwise numbers will easily and quickly increase again. Typically, the animal rights zealots are so blinded by ideology...

Is swift A-Frame going way of the dinosaur?

Agree that North Fork would be suitable to substitute for Swift A Frame. NF bonded bullets perform very well and reliably, shoot very accurately and the new owners are really coming through with production to supply the market, especially the USA market. Mostly I personally shoot my all time...

Recommended dangerous game bullets and cartridges?

Ron Spomer is quite a fan I believe of the medium game calibres. Not sure if he has used any on DG but IIRC he might have mentioned in one of his videos or podcasts that he was going to. Recommended dangerous game bullets and cartridges?

My experience with my own handloads in 375 H&H ..... Best accuracy found with Barnes TSX ( 270 and 300 gn ), North Fork SS and Cup Point Solid 300 gn, Woodleigh Weldcore RN SN 300 gn. Least accurate was Hornady DGX 300 gn ( I think non-bonded model when I had them ). By least accurate I mean not...

@NIGHTHAWK I have done this application with Emirates several times. It seems daunting first time but apart from requiring a little time and filling in some details it's not too bad.
