Same experience with Savage Customer Service. On my rifle the cerakote flaked off when I pulled the Savage sticker off. Called them up and they sent a new stock at no charge, told me to keep the old one.

I carry a Murray leather slip for my rifles. Rifle is packed in the hard case with foam cut to fit. The leather slip lies right on top of the rifle in the case or gets rolled up in the checked luggage.

I know there is a 35 Whelen in this model. I agree a 7x57 and 458 WM would be nice to see. A 458 with the D weight (tropical) barrel profile would be a nice set up.

One the guys at the LGS, walks up and asks what I have. I told him 9.3X62. His response was why do want a weird caliber? Oh wait, you just picked up a 338 Marlin Express. Yup I did. Unlike the 338 ME I can buy 9.2X62 ammo nearly any where, outside the US.

Given your choices I would go with the 338. The other option is the 300 WM. Yet a third option if you want a short action is 300 WSM.

I was skeptical of the unfired condition. But a disassembly of rifle showed no wear, very clean, no carbon build up in the crevices. Hopefully under Ruger, Marlin will bring back the 338 Marlin Express.
