First Safari I took my IPad, IPhone and a Nikon SLR.
Second Safari I took my IPhone.
For me the less electronics the better. I found I did not need to manage anything while on Safari. The only thing that would have come through was home security alerts.
Unplug for a bit and enjoy the experience...
I was considering a Tika T3.
The plastic bolt shroud, tigger guard and area around the magazine are plastic.
None of those things affect the functionality of the rifle.
That was a turn off for me.
I have read that the T3X now has a metal bolt shroud.
Congratulations on getting your dream rifle.
If you want to use the MB so be it. You want to shoot it suppressed so be it.
Your rifle shoot it like you want to shoot it.
I ended up with a Savage 110 Timberline.
Aluminum block bedding in the stock
Factory blue printed action.
Medium contour barrel.
Using an AB Raptor 10
Very easy shooting.
One thing to keep in mind about threaded barrels. Light sporter contours can have issues with alignment when running a...
I looked at that but it has a 2019 join date. With only a few posts.
But thought what the heck. Let’s see where this goes.
Kinda like answering the phone knowing it is a telemarketer.
You have a post named Rigby.
You are carrying on about the 7PRC.
Maybe it is because I am still sipping my second cup of coffee, but I don’t get the point of the post?
Whew wee, time to dig a mud pit. Let these boys jump in an wrasle. Last one still in the pit at the end of 10 minutes wins. In the event of a tie, well they have to square off with the micro (can’t say midget anymore) wrestlers.
The perfect rifle caliber for plains game?
30-06
300 WM
375 Ruger
375 H&H
There are a bunch of people who have a 30-06 and or 300 WM in their safe already.
Smart thing is to take the rifle they already shoot.
The emotional, yes emotional, is to buy another rifle in “perfect caliber” for...
On my Ruger African in 375 Ruger I put a 1” thick recoil pad to give me a little longer pull on the rifle. The rifle fitting better definitely helps.
The Ruger No.1’s I have in 450-400 and 458 are very manageable with thin Ruger butt pad.
I am guessing your rifle will be fitted to you so the...
Traveled in 21 or so counties.
I have been mildly sick in Egypt.
Pretty bad sick in Ireland.
I have been pretty lucky to not get sick by not drinking any water that is not bottled that I opened. Not eating anything from local markets. A friend of mine was sick from eating a fried critter of...
Previous owner on my Ruger Guide Gun had the barrel threaded. He unfortunately went with the Ruger thread pattern which is not the industry standard. I had it fixed.
You will need a new banded front sight or a screw on front sight
A friend of mine went with the front sight from NECG that is the...
I would say that about a 30% felt recoil reduction. Significant enough to notice.
This could vary depending on host of variables, suppressor length, suppressor baffle design, weight, etc.
The material the suppressor is made from makes a huge difference.
The core design makes a huge difference in sound reduction.
Some of the newer designs not only suppress but direct sound forward, they are not as quite to the ear.
Back over the barrel or a reflex suppressor changes the balance of...
Why would a person feel that they should point out an another hunters trophy is inferior in their opinion?
The way to be polite about another persons trophy is to complement them on a job well done.
Of those 2 choices the 308.
I took a 308 my first trip over. It accounted for one shot kills on Zebra, Blue Wildebeest, Impala and wart hog. No tracking required.
With that said I would have taken a 30-06 if a left handed version of the rifle I wanted had been available.
Having collected a variety of spotting scopes over the years.
Starting when I was a poor college student and some times beer money was a priority, I bought a Tasco spotting scope. Over the years it went back to Tasco twice and came back better than new twice. It still works great. Easily see...
Scent confusion is what is all about.
Stay up drinking. If you don’t drink splash what ever spirts are there in your hair.
Wash your face and pits with scent free soap.
Use a Chanel #5 perfumed scent drag.
Gun oil behind the ears.
Lit cigarette clipped to your hat.
Roll around or stomp around...
I would also stick with the single shot. Build the skills. Then let him decide later what he likes. I would also consider going with a different single shot due to the limited cartridge choices by this maker.
My curiosity is peaked, who is the gun maker?
Or… 270 Grain or 250 grain 375 @2650 fps loaded with a Barnes LRX or TTSX.
100 yard zero.
270 grain LRX
Range Drop Energy Velocity
300 -15.34 2617 2089
Or a Barnes 250 gain TTSX
Range Drop Energy Velocity
300 -15.61 2352 2058
Picking lightest bullet for...
There are several barrel makers that make a prefit barrel for a Savage in nearly any caliber you want.
Krieger
Shaw
Proof
X-Caliber
McGowen
I have used McGowen in the past with great results.
Well you could have him do the Gun Tab as a way of paying.
Gun Tab is an escrow type account.
Buyers deposits full amount.
Seller ships rifle.
Once rifle is received seller is paid.
Zebra, or as my PH said Zeebraah!
150ish yards.
308 Winchester loaded with Barnes TTSX.
One shot slightly quartering away.
Limpopo region.
My PH saw them a long way off. So we drove on past them on into the tree line. We stoped a couple of hundred yards into the bush and stalked back cutting...
OH, I load the TSX same as any other bullet. Nothing special. No problems with my loading.
The Barnes website has the powder recommendations.

Run a AB Raptor 10 (reflexon one 375 Ruger that has been re-threaded to the standard thread pitch. Also run a Hybrid 46M on another 375 Ruger with a hub threaded for the Ruger thread pitch.
One of my buddies uses the Raptor but takes the front sight off.
The Raptor 10 being a back over the...
I have had great luck with Leupold.
I put the VX5 2-10 with CDS and FireDot on my 375.
I normally do not like or want open turrets on a hunting scope. But this system works and stays put. It is pretty easy to look and verify that the dial is at zero and not 200 yards. The yardage turret is low...
Years ago had an issue with latches popped open. I started carrying a roll of shrink wrap tape. After inspections.the case gets wrapped.
First trip to SA there and back with no issues with shrink wrap in my carry one.
Second trip I had to leave it as was a prohibited item. So I tossed it in...
Over the years I have had a couple of incident’s with UPS and FedEx.
UPS put the forks of a forklift through the box that had a very nice SKB 200E that I had purchased in it. The shotgun was broken down and shipped in a hard case in a box. The forks broke the wrist and damaged the barrels. The...
I use a Murray Leather culling belt, with the elastic loops.
Handles my 375 Ruger, 450-400 and 458.
Very comfortable. Can wear it all day with no issues.
In June of 25, one of the guys that went with us to Africa used the MagPul Daka.
I was fairly certain that his rifle would need a re-zero when he arrived.
Well… it turned out that rifle did not need to be re-zeroed.
The DAKA system has not made a believer of me, but it seems to work.
There are...
Only will you see a Toyota High Lux pulling a trailer with a Giraffe on it being pulled by a Toyota High Lux with trailer Giraffe on it. All while using a ridiculously thin rope.
And pass a semi truck while going up hill.
Speaking of semi trucks, when one has a wreck it is a free for all by...
