I am super excited. I just recently picked up a Lipseys African in 6.5x55. Be awesome to have a matched pair!
It won’t be unfired much longer. It’ll be a nice upgrade over my husqvarna 9.3x62 though it’ll be hard to part with that one. Maybe I’ll need a beater and a nice 9.3!
Beautiful rifle. You've already put a bunch of work into it so pursue your dream and finish it! If not let me know! I personally agree I like the look of the long barrel, short stock vs the stutzen rifles.
I agree on most all of their ammo. Their 8x57 seemed very anemic that I tried. However I use much of their ammo. At 20-25ish a box it’s amazing how well it shoots. For standard hunting that doesn’t need a premium bullet it’s great to use
Don’t know if it’s anything someone would need. But leupold base for a short action A bolt I believe. Free to whomever wants it who has more than 50 posts. If you’re under 50 posts a $10 shipping fee applies.
Congrats! I been wanting a 7x64 for
some reason. been onsiderinn a mannlicher MCA but the M77 is a nice classic looking rifle.
a nice collection. i just acquired a 6.5x55 African as well.
Great round. I've been patiently waiting for a rifle in this caliber to come along. I've been thinking a Mannlicher MCA would be an ideal rifle in this. Slim and fast handling, but a full 24" barrel. I actually bought a ton of ammo of Rookhawk awhile ago in preperation of getting one!
That rifle was on GB by the same seller about 2-3 months ago. Brought around $2500? Seller must have backed out or the seller had a shill bidder running it up.
Nice looking rifle but I've never understood QD scope rings, and then having to install an iron sight to use it.
Beautiful rifle. I'd love it, been wanting a Rigby 275 as kind of my grail gun, however with my eyesight I need optics and It'd be sacrilege to do that to that rifle. Good luck with the sale, it should go well.
I’d say the 9x57 hasn’t caught on is mainly the harder to find bullets. .358 is most common and that’s a bit to sewage down to .355. I’d think. A friend has a 9x57 and he has a stock of .356 bullets he uses.
Also higher velocity longer rounds caught on early in the US
I’d really like to acquire a 7x57 number one. I just had a .270 that I had. Then sold again. A nice light cartridge but I wanted it in a more classic round. Not that .270 isn’t classic as well, just in a different way.
These beautiful rifles just make the need that much more.
318 years plus be my choice as it is the classic choice. However you wouldn’t go wrong with the 6.5 either.
Obviously the answer is to pick one, then use the other one on the next safari!
Duplex works fine. I have an affection for post and crosshair reticles. Super fast acquisition and I have them on a number of guns that arent long-rangers.
A few of my more longer ranged rifles I like a old-school BDC where it's simply a dot or hash that you use to holdover after doing...
Bumping an old thread as I had a question:
Somewhere I saw a comment (cannot find it now) where someone lamented the Ruger RSM only held 2 rounds of .416 Rigby in the magwell making it a three shot gun.
Is that so? I assumed it was a 3+1 capacity?
I just ask as I'm trying to sell my 375...

A nice one on gunbroker. I was sorely tempted. I like that forend more than the standard Ruger one. And a very very fair price so far.
And the seller has good feedback so very reliable.
I am probably one of the few who bridge the gap. I love classic hunting rifles. Blued steel and wood are amazing.
That said I think everyone needs a couple plastic no good ARs (or 5 since they’re cheap). I like classic military rifles with everything from trapdoor springfields to FALs...
Simpsons if it’s a 9.3x62 it sells by the end of the day. I’ve been watching for a BRNO to possibly replace my Husqvarna but haven’t found one to snag.
I think I’d have passed on this one even if I’d seen it in time. Looks like the grip is been repaired.
I quit using Winchester shotgun shells some ago. Whatever formula they use for the “brass” portion expands much more than any other brand I’ve found.
I do use it as a test base. If a shotgun will function with Winchester it will function with anything.
I love all guns. But the .243 is a fine little round. Have to be careful with shot placement but makes for light, easy packing guns that don't whomp the heck out of you.
I don’t feel comfortable doing a bank transfer. But would gladly pay $60/65 for someone to have a profit on a book to forward to me. It sounds like someone could do a group order as many here are wanting it.
Appreciate the replies. The Alaska arms rings just always made me question as his instructional video and every pic I’ve seen of them shows them flat/parallel and never seen them in any direction, wondered if they had to be that way.
One of my top trade items would be a nice 7x57 in rigby style. Barrel band or under barrel sling mount, iron sights, qd bases or at least drill and tapped receiver to allow scope use, but can still see the iron sights when scope is removed.
6.5x55 swede also a possible candidate as well.
Question on the rings. Can the levers be set at any angle? Or must they be 90’/parallel to gun?
I ask as I prefer qd levers on the right hand side of the gun however if both levers are parallel to the guns reciever I thought they may interfere with the action, loading the mag or ejection etc.
Myself I’d pull it and put a reputable scope on.
That said I’m betting it’s a Japanese made scope from the early 60s and most of them are even still solid today although they’re not gas purged.

Out of curiosity does the Merkel feel chunky/foreheavy to you?
I've passed on a Merkel before, and been hesitant to pull the trigger on a double I've never handled before because of that weight/balance being an unknown.
The Sabattis for as much as they're bashed feel amazing to me. The...
