If your new a rimfire or even airgun with similar sights are your friend. At least i go this route often. And of your want to get serious with it. A well fittet stock for irons will make the whole thing way easier.

.308 bullet kills em dead at 2500fps muzzle velocity so you can chop it as you like. The 300wm will always make more fps at a given barrel lenght then a 308win and those work wonderfully with short batrels. The accesive blast will get cought by the suppressor. Sounds like a win/win to me
