    Pre 64 375 H&H AI

Brown stocks are my favorite synthetic. They were one of the pioneers in synthetics, and got it right. As a rule I dont care for synthetic stocks, but I have a 280 AI I built for sheep hunting in a Brown kevlar Pound'r, it handles wonderfully. What does this rifle weigh ?

    Pre 64 375 H&H AI

It sure looks like a Brown Precision build to me, which in my opinion makes your asking price quite reasonable. I have three .375s otherwise I would be quite tempted. 3+1 or 4+1 ?

    Pre 64 375 H&H AI

Is it actually a plastic stock ? It looks to me that it may be a much higher quality Brown Precision fiberglass or kevlar stock, at least it appears to be looking at small pics on my phone. If it says Brown Precision on the barrel it is likely a complete build from Brown, unless you know...

    Gunfighter pistol

My guess is its a 44 WCF aka 44-40 if a 45 Colt is close to fittting. Looks like a Colt 1873 "Peacemaker" to my non-expert eyes. Looks like not only the ejector rod was removed, the frame boss for the rod was ground off. Interesting piece for sure !

Ammunition or Rifle issue? Merkel Double 416 Rigby issues

I agree the primers look normal, not flattened like one would expect to see when running into pressure signs with a bolt action. The thing is, break actions can exhibit problems with pressure at lower levels than what could cause problems with a bolt action. There is a reason traditional double...

Ammunition or Rifle issue? Merkel Double 416 Rigby issues

I dont have double rifle experience, but do have experience with T/C Contenders and Encores, and a family member with a New England Handi Rifle that I handloaded 270 for. What you describe is what I have experienced when loads are generating too much pressure. The brass is stretching upon firing...

    Barnes LRX performance

My buddy used a 7x57 and 168 LRXs on a zebra at approximately 80 yards and a wildebeest around 200 yards. Bullet performance on both was excellent with pass throughs, major tissue damage, and fast death. I believe muzzle velocity was around 2650, so that should equate to the impact velocity at...

For sale Sauer 202 300 weatherby

No disrespect intended. If you took it as disrespectful thats on you. When the action type is different than stated that does not inspire confidence in a buyer. Thought maybe you were selling for a third party and did not have the rifle. 200 vs 202 ? Typos happen. Straight pull vs conventional...

Push your rifles (and yourself), Mauser surprise.

Both extractors seemed to have the same amount of tension when removing from bolt. I was able to accomplish removal and installation with my fingers, no tools required. I do plan on modifying my .458 extractor to match the one off my .375. In my 458 this extractor takes less effort to snap...

Push your rifles (and yourself), Mauser surprise.

I had a rude awakening today. I am just a couple weeks out from my buff and elephant hunt and today finally did a timed drill with my .458 built on a Czech military Mauser. I had been shooting this .458 for over a year, zeroing the irons, zeroing the scope, load development, etc. It had been...

Question About Zastava M70 Rear Sight Base

Yes, it is secured by two screws. I have a Remington 798 which is just a Zastava M70 rebranded by Remington. It had the same rear sight you pictured. I removed it and installed a ERA sight from NECG. Here are pictures of the factory sight: The ERA sight base from NECG is only designed to...

What is going on here ? Real Rigby ? Checkering quality.

That checkering is worlds better, the lines actually run true to the point pattern. To see the cut lines running at odd angles to points in the pattern just screams amatuer hour. Not something I would expect to see on a rifle bearing the Rigby name. I understand not all Rigbys are created equal...

  26. roklok

    Cz feeding problem

Thats what I figured was happening, the extractor was pushing the case out, not the bolt face. See post 24. So it could be a feedlip problem, follower problem, or extractor problem. How much of the extractor is engaging case head ? If the lower outboard corner of extractor was relieved this may...

    Cz feeding problem

What part of the bolt assembly is pushing the last round out of the control of the feed lip/lips ? Is it the bolt face or is it the extractor ? Or is the last round popping out of the control of the feed lip when withdrawing the bolt with no forward movement?

What is going on here ? Real Rigby ? Checkering quality.

Perusing Gunbroker, came across this rifle. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1179133089 Listed for $32,000, the checkering looks quite amatuerish. Overruns, the pattern does not match the points, just can't imagine this checkering quality or lack thereof on a Rigby rifle. Is this a...

Get experience first? Or, hunt dangerous game right away?

My first African animal was a cape buffalo. A hunt I dreamed about since I was 9 or 10. Plains game is a nice way to get some extra hunting time in, but does not hold enough allure for me to go to Africa just for that. I have been blessed with getting a wide variety of big game animals in the...

Have you found bullets get softer as they age?

Hmm, never heard of this. I have a stash of bullets for .35 Whelen I bought in 1992, 34 years ago, consisting of Sierra Gamekings and Nosler Partitions. I am still loading the partitions from this stash, and haven't noticed any deficiencies. If one were to compare new bullets to the old with...

35 Whelen recoil and terminal performance?

So many variables with felt recoil, but when I plug the numbers into a recoil calculator comparing 300 with 180s at 3000 and a 35 Whelen with 250s at 2550, the Whelen shows a bit more recoil with like rifles, which more or less matches my experience. My favorite 35 Whelen has a narrow butt, and...

    Interarms whitworth 375 H&H?

I prefer the earlier production that have the unbroken checkering on forearm of stock. The later ones have a dividing line through the checkering on each side of the wraparound pattern. Look at pics of them, you will see what I mean.

Glad you at least figured out part of your problem. In my 30 Express (same action as 1917) .375 H&H build I used a magnum long action Remington 700 follower. I tested the original 1917 follower, a Magnum 98 Mauser follower, and the 700 follower. The 700 follower gave the best feeding in my...

What Do You Consider Disrespectful Trophy Pictures?

I don't care for the cut off elephant tail pictures. I understand the tradition behind the practice, it just doesn't appeal to me in photographic form. Almost seems akin to cutting off a scalp and posing with it. I am not passing judgment on those who take and post such pics, it just hits me...

QD mounts on .375 and .458 Lott Mauser 98s

Leupold makes two styles of QD rings and bases, one is essentially the same as Warne's and the other has the small round studs on rings with levers on bases. I have the latter style on a third .375, and the jury is still out on those. They definitely do not seem as robust as the Warne style.

    Working the bolt

Working the bolt in the quickest manner possible does not equal rushing shots, in fact it is the opposite. Working the bolt in the quickest manner possible gives MORE time to make a good shot. We stress this in handgun training, the faster out of the holster, the faster reloads, the faster...
