    Retired - Now What?

So sorry to hear of the forced end to your career, and compliments to your capacity to move forward. My life followed a similar path; after 45 years of aviation, flying, fixing, building - airplanes, gliders, helicopters, balloons, and blimps, a medical issue forced an end to a passion which...

Gun cases - 1 for 2 rifles or take 2 for 2 rifles when traveling/Africa

I leave scopes on and bolts in and have never had an issue with either. I pack sweatshirts, jackets, etc, into the Tuff-pak for additional padding. Binos, Fix It Sticks, GPS, SAT phone, knives, etc, go into a separate small Pelican case which then goes into a hard (aluminum) suitcase...

Gun cases - 1 for 2 rifles or take 2 for 2 rifles when traveling/Africa

I use Murray Leather cases (slips) for each rifle which I then place inside a TuffPak. I typically take a scoped rifle (375) and a double. I have taken 3 rifles when I wanted something less than a 375 for smaller game. The issue becomes ammo - bringing enough for 3 rifles and remaining within...

Plan to Save Elephants Sparked a Deadly Conflict

The problem I see with "Do-Gooders" is they only think far enough into a situation to feel good about themselves.

    Heym factory regulation options

I have 2 Heym doubles, 450/400 and 500NE; I shoot Hornady ammo for practice and use Safari Arms for custom loads. If you find yourself in East Texas, you can shoot either, or both of them.

What was your impression of the TTHA show this weekend in Dallas?

If you go to the Los Cazadores Contest website you can see the classes and winners of last year. The overall was 308 and second was under 300 so I might have a chance at something. The guide asked the staff about "Mr Heavy" - it's a measure of mass, how much volume in the antlers, he thought...

What was your impression of the TTHA show this weekend in Dallas?

Heym 375. Probably too much gun, but it was the easiest to retrieve from my truck without a lot of unpacking. Also, I had no idea of the range or surroundings so I chose a rifle with a scope. I had a 6.5 Creedmore with me for some of the drills at FTW, but after seeing the responses on this...

One more firearm...or are you done?

When I built my "Monster Jeep" my wife asked, "Do I want to know how much you spent on that jeep?" I responded, "NO", and kept on walking. The next morning I found my laptop open to a picture of a Mercedes SL550, with a Happy Face and a list of dealers who have them in stock taped to the...

What was your impression of the TTHA show this weekend in Dallas?

I was able to redeem my hunt at the G2 Ranch this past weekend. I was scheduled to attend a course at FTW starting the 18th, so we planned a stop at G2 starting the 16th. G2 (https://www.g2ranch.com/) is located in Pearsall, TX - neat San Antonio. The lodge and accommodations are first...

Where would you go for the biggest buffalo NOT bred in captivity

My hunt was November of 2018, last hunt of the year. We hunted Lolkisale (Maasailand) and Lobo. Both of these areas are near Tarangeire National Park. If you look on Harpreet's website you will see the location and his camps. Rungwasafaris.com Tanzania is expensive compared to some other...

What was your impression of the TTHA show this weekend in Dallas?

We enjoyed the show. Missed seeing some of the outfitters who attend DSC, but we will connect at SCI. There were enough outfitters there to start planning some future hunts. I booked a mountain lion hunt, won the G2 whitetail hunt, and will be spending the weekend with a PH planning a leopard...

Buffalo boss pre and post taxidermy

These have been previously posted, but here are the four cape buffalo from my hunt in 2018 and them mounted. There's a closeup of the boss of the biggest one. You can see a bit of the material is lost during the taxidermy process.,

Buy or rent a Satellite phone?

I have owned a SAT phone for years, I purchase a yearly subscription plan. I've taken it on every trip to Africa, took it to Australia, and carry it in either my truck or jeep depending on which I am driving. There are cell towers in Africa, and most camps have Starlink; however, situations...

What is the farthest you have regulated a double rifle?

Please help me understand the use of the term "regulated". I read references to rifles being "regulated" to cross at certain distances, then read Red Leg's post which cites bullets remaining parallel. SStomcat talks about "regulating" at longer distances, then reverting to a 100 yd zero and...

Update on the noise concerns. As previously stated, large caliber rifles are shot from outside the confines of the room, 5 and 10 yrd pistol fire is within the room, and 15 yds is at the doorway. The other night, when I opted to shoot my Thompson, I was about 5yds from the front - so 23' from...

You guys are killing me with the outhouse references. I don't know what's worse - the insulated seats or the idea of his-n-hers. I have to ask; is it his-n-hers as in husband and wife, brother and sister, cousins? Or, forgive me God - do all three apply to the same two people? Sorry, butt...

Moving to this area has been such a refreshing change from what was happening in California. People here are genuinely nice, sincere, and polite. There have only two pronouns - sir, and ma'am. On the road, in a store, at a restaurant, people are courteous - there's no rush to be first in...

What did you get yourself for Christmas?

The 7.3 is still my favorite. There were two issues in your year model: the turbo bolts breaking and a wiring harness in the engine compartment which on some vehicles was routed too close to the actuator arm of the turbo resulting in wear and eventual shorting of the wires in the harness. At...

What did you get yourself for Christmas?

Nice. I've got a 2020 F350 Diesel crewcab, shortbed and I love it. My favorite was my 7.3, but when it started spitting out the turbo bolts I replaced it. I got the "Limited" version, so it's got the old-man comfort package. I added a shell and a full-length slide out bed. Enjoy your new truck.

Thank you. With regard to the lead question, the honest answer is - I don't know. There are vents along the top of both the side and back walls. The door provides a 10' X 12' opening, and the fan at the back is 36". Rifle shooting is predominately from outside the door, but I did fire my...

In the interest of preserving what little hearing I have left, I don't doubt what you guys are saying. All the rifle shooting has been from the 50 and 100 yd marks on the driveway - standard ear plugs or muffs. But I can see where it could get really loud inside with pistols. The guys helping...
