    Buffalo 2027

Get a hold of Conrad at Mpeti Safaris in KZN. They are a site sponsor here. Had a great time and fun, successful hunt for buffalo last June. And plenty of plains game and some warthogs on the very large property that they hunt.

    Finally Got My Elephant Back!!!

Very nice. You'll look at these trophies with fond memories for years to come. Mine from last December is at Collett's now. I was gonna just hang the tusks with copper caps, but after seeing your bases, I really like that look. Mine are smaller as well, 24 lbs each. Also doing an ear map. Love...

What is your accuracy standard for a Big Bore bolt gun?

I'm hunting croc and hippo in Zim in November. My PH, who I have hunted with a few times before and totally trust, said to bring whatever I shoot most accurately. Meaning MOA or better off the bench. I'm still deciding and have more shooting to finalize. Luckily I have a few months to sort it out.

Safari Packing 2.0 with Philip Glass

Excellent advice Phillip. I do the same with my rifle case. Pelican 1750 with center foam removed carries my 470 dr and my 416 Rigby/338 Lapua mag Dakota in soft cases. Add in a cleaning rod, a few basic cleaning and maintenance accessories, my knife and ammo belt and I am just below the 50lb...

Greetings from UNTAMED KNIVES in Zimbabwe

Hello Ross, Good to have you here on AH. I have been a consistent purchaser of your knives after each release. I will be traveling thru Harare on my way to the Omay for a hunt in November of this year. Vaughn will be filming my hunt and possibly picking me up and providing my ride to camp. Is...

    Making maple syrup

Yes. At 2% sugar content in the sap. As content goes up or down, the volume of sap required to make a gallon of syrup goes up or down as well. The 40 to 1 is a generic formula that generally holds true as 2% is an average content.

    Replacing this Old Hat

What is the Standard payment structure for booking a hunt?

I've hunted Zimbabwe twice now, with a third trip coming up this November. All three trips are with established operators that are active on this site. First time, they requested a modest down payment. At the completion of the hunt, he requested I wire the balance of the day fees and trophy fees...

Still trying to sell 458 Lott Left hand Rifle - NEW Price all inclusive $3k

Sir, I don't believe @ftothfadd was trying to disparage your uncle in any way. He was trying to point out, maybe slightly inarticulately, that your method of measuring LOP was not the accepted or normal standard. You are measuring from the front of the trigger guard which gives an extremely long...

An expensive mistake with my Pelican case

I do the same exact same thing as Mr. Glass. My double in one soft case. My magazine rifle in another. Remove the center foam from my Pelican 1750 and pack rifle gear (think shooting sticks, cleaning rod and supplies, tools, hunting knives, etc) around them until I reach 49 lbs. Has worked well...

    Kudu Pricing?

While I have never bought or participated in an auction hunt, I have read a fair amount about them with interest. I went thru the SCI and DSC hunt lists out of curiosity. One thing I noticed is that quite a few of the offers had the condition that it could not be combined with any other hunt. I...

Traveling with rifle to RSA - do you need a "fixer"?

I will reiterate: Best money you will spend on your safari! What will you do if your rifle isn't waiting at SAPS or your bag doesn't come down the baggage carousel? With a quality "fixer" you will have someone who knows the airport and all it's nooks and crannies and can usually locate where you...

Traveling with rifle to RSA - do you need a "fixer"?

Afton's gun permit/SAPS assistance is $100. Best money you will spend on your trip. Takes the headache and worry out of a possible situation that could go sideways. I have used them several times and I am sure I could do it myself. But if there is an issue, it would taint my whole trip, Using a...

    Making maple syrup

As a little back story, my family owned and operated a large sugar bush in Michigan's Upper Peninsula for many years. A good years production was generally between 8-12,000 US gallons. Most years saw between 25,000 and 33,000 taps all hooked to a vacuum system to bring the sap flow to the house...

    Elephant hunting

I did a night hunt back in December. Ambushed them when they used a travel corridor. Long, boring waiting topped by a huge adrenaline surge when the tracker wakes you and says “they are coming!!” Killed mine in the 9th night of a 10 day hunt. Glad I did it. Don’t know if I need to do it again...

Will the Middle East conflict affect your hunt plans

@Wildwillalaska I did the ATL-JNB-Zim flight in Dec on Delta. overnight layover on the way there. I had to collect my bags and clear SAPS. DALTON & YORK SAFARIS Available Hunts 2026

I've hunted with Bruce twice now and headed over in December to hunt with him again. My guess is he didn't mince any words or fail to let his joy show when the ranger slipped. LOL Our ranger and he had a disagreement. It was entertaining to watch them hash it out. I really enjoy hunting with...

Flying with Bolt Action rifle - Bolt in or out?

I remove mine. Put it inside a large, insulated leather glove. Bolt head down the middle finger, handle in the thumb. Hold it tight with a plastic tie wrap and lay it in my Pelican 1750. Works well. Just remember to include a few extra tie wraps in your gun case.

Gun cases - 1 for 2 rifles or take 2 for 2 rifles when traveling/Africa

It's a simple process to cut the two center lock positions off a Pelican 1750. Took me about 10 minutes with the sawzall and a file to smooth. I believe Philip Glass is where I heard of this simple trick.
