Guesthouse in Windhoek - recommendation wanted

Another vote for the Hilton downtown. Nice, clean, comfy and a friendly staff. Small street vendor, open market and some basic supply stores just across the street and easy walking. I needed a new charging cord for my phone and a staff member walked me across the street and helped me find and...

Bullet suggestion for heart / lung shot on Elephant ?

I took my tuskless with 400gr Woodleigh Hydros in 416 Rigby last December. Couldn't get close enough to feel comfortable for a brain shot, so took a lung/heart shot at 65 yds. As she whirled and ran, I hit her 3 more times with the same pill. Went about 80 yds and piled up, stone dead. The...

    New Buffalo call your shot

I just had this exact shot at 28 yards last week. 470 NE with Barnes TSX 500 gr at 2075 fps. He wheeled at the shot, and I hit him a second time in the right hip quartering forward. It traveled up thru the gut and into the chest. We think either shot would have taken him. He ran about 40 yds...

    New owner of 470 n.e.

Rare Breed, I believe 3/8 would be too small for a 470 NE. 3/8=0.375. I would think 1/2” would be appropriate. Please correct me if I’m wrong. I use Trader Keith’s Kynoch foams. I believe they are the #2

    New owner of 470 n.e.

I used Kynoch foam wads from Trader Keith with the 15.5 or the 3031. The 4831 and 4831SC filled the case well enough that I did not use any filler. It will depend on the powder you use and the amount of case fill it gives you. JJ recommended 2gr of polyester. (Pillow stuffing)

    New owner of 470 n.e.

I have been shooting my Chapuis 470 for the last couple weeks working on loads and consistency. I leave tomorrow for the Dark Continent and an appointment with a Cape buffalo. Mine seems to digest almost everything I throw at it well. Both barrels stay inside of 3 1/2" at 50 yds with several...

I have a Nanuk 904 case that is reasonably compact and easily holds 2 boxes (40) 375 H&H and 1 box of 470 NE. Ammo and case weigh in just under 9 lbs.

    What have you eaten?

Mountain lion turns white as well. Reminds me of pork in looks and texture. Makes fantastic breakfast sausage. Had elephant from my tuskless last December. Flavor was amazing, but you better put your good teeth in and be prepared to give your jaw muscles a work out. Asked my Zim PH about eating...

2025 14 Day Leopard, Buffalo, Sable, Hippo, Croc & PG Hunt In Zambia

Thank you for the offer. Could you please clarify for me: Headline says $34,000 for the package. But then in the T/C's says trophy fees are exclude. Does this mean that trophy fees for leopard, hippo, croc and buffalo are in addition to the $34,000? I am very interested in this hunt. Just...

    African Axe

PH I hunted with in Zim last December gave me one as a gift. I took it apart so it didn't look too formidable and packed in my rifle case. No issues with CBP.

ZIMBABWE: First Hunt In Africa, First Hunting Report, Dalton & York Safaris

Have you ever considered getting replica horns made for the bushbuck mount and keeping the skull and horns on display? I did it with a B&C muskox. Skull and horns was just too cool looking to cut up for the mount, but the fact I will probably never take another and the hide is so thick and cool...

What's the most Mambas you have seen on a safari?

One. In Limpopo in March of 24. Headed back to camp after a day of tracking buffalo. Saw a stick (I thought) in the road ahead. PH was driving and on the phone. As we got close, I saw it move. Yelled "snake" and PH damn near wrecked the truck. LOL He hated snakes. We ran over it as we drove by...

Fly to Bulawayo- is Ethiopian Airlines ok w/rifle?

I flew Ethiopian thru Addis in March. I didn't take my own firearms, as layover is so short and Jennifer was worried if I would make my connection. I used camp rifles, and they were ok, but I would much rather have my own. Our plane was late. Addis was a cluster. I had my 82 yr old mother with...

    Zimbabwe rifle import

I did the same. Flew Emirates. Avoids an overnight in Joburg. And Emirates is a good airline. Left out of O'hare and the process was simple and didn't see my guns again until Harare. Although my airtags told me they were with me all the way.

    Zimbabwe rifle import

I was there in December and took two rifles. I landed in Harare and did have my outfitter set up a greeter. They guided me through the process, but it was quite simple. You go to a small room where they have you open your gun case and ammo box. They look at and and photograph your rifles and...

    Montana Rifle Company factory visit

I spent some time with them in Nashville. Seemed like great guys willing to answer any questions. Nice rifles, but I found the actions a little sticky and rough. I only handled the .375 (I think that's what it was) and the barreled action they had out on the table. Hope they do well. We can...

Hunt Tuskless Cow Hunts In Zimbabwe This Season

Yes. Drove roads until we cut tracks, then tracked. Rain a month before my hunt made the country extremely green and thick. Visibility was next to zero. Had to get in the bush to find animals. We were lucky on rain, as I knew it could be an issue. Rained 2-3 times but always during mid-day when...

Hunt Tuskless Cow Hunts In Zimbabwe This Season

I hunted tuskless and buffalo with Bruce in December in Zim. Fantastic PH and a good man. Had a blast. It was hotter than hell, and he and his team worked their asses off to make a successful hunt come true for me. Can't say enough good things about him and hope to hunt with him in the future.

2 Gun Scoped Rifle Case Suggestions

I've used my Pelican 1750 for numerous domestic flights including Alaska, as well as Canada and Africa. Never had an issue. I cut foam to fit my rifles until my last trip to Zimbabwe. I needed soft cases as well for my Merkel double and Dakota Traveler. I removed the bolt from the Dakota and...

    Recommend a double 500 NE?

Thank you all for your replies. I do have Mr. Wright's book and have read it thoroughly. From your information, I believe I am on the right path. Wood stock rifles

While I agree with all your feelings towards wood and blued steel, I also feel that if the next generation finds plastic and camo attractive, support them. We need every new or young hunter to stay the course and help carry on the tradition of shooting and hunting we all love. Don’t dissuade...
