    boot insole inserts

You could consider a custom. I used sheepfeet which is popular in the western hunting world. Have put probably 75-100mi on mine and love them so far. They now have an app that you can use to scan your feet rather than molds.

What scope do you trust? Most rugged, dependable rifle scope?

The NXS 2-10 is only 20oz and the 1-8 is 17.6oz so some models aren't THAT heavy as compared to say a Leupold vx5 2-10 @ 17.9oz.

And they aren't exactly known for spot on tracking or durability either. I say this as someone who has never owned one, just done a lot of internet research which is worth a whole bunch...

What scope do you trust? Most rugged, dependable rifle scope?

Also important to note that these are mk5 scopes, not lower tier Leupolds. And, according to the article, the last survey had Leupold near the bottom until the recent introduction of the mk5. Sorry, I’m a leupold hater.

What scope do you trust? Most rugged, dependable rifle scope?

Those tests are on R-slide and most (all?) of the Leupolds fail to hold zero. Edit- I guess that link is not permitted. Search R-slide scope evaluation.

What scope do you trust? Most rugged, dependable rifle scope?

Rugged and dependable? You want Nightforce.

    Leupold or Swarovski

Swarovski will be better but for durability, look at the nightforce 1-8. Its illumination is very bright too. On 1x it’s like a aimpoint red dot.

For Sale : $2200 - Swarovski ATX 95 Angled Spotting Scope with 30-70x Eyepiece in Box

If it’s shipped then you have a tracking number now to give him. Why are we having to explain this? I’ve also seen scams where random items are shipped to provide tracking number but the actual item is not. Either way, I’m glad he started a claim and will hopefully get his money back.

For Sale : $2200 - Swarovski ATX 95 Angled Spotting Scope with 30-70x Eyepiece in Box

This guy again? That MK5 post was super suspicious as well. I can’t find it now though, did mods nuke it? I have my doubts you will receive tracking info. If you do, my guess is it will be a box with not a swaro in it. Best of luck and hopefully you used secure payment.

Is this normal behavior by a Safari outfitter?

Yep. Knew instantly who this was about. I had a bad experience in communicating with them last year as well and bailed on the hunt. Owner didn’t offer help either. Beware of their in house taxidermy shop too. Friends hunted with him several years ago on a DU bid and they are still waiting on...

    Binocular Advice Needed

Interesting topic to me as I’m considering doing the opposite. I hunted in the bush last year with swaro 10x42 and while they worked great, I’d prefer something smaller and lighter. I’ll be in the bush again next year and considering the maven 8x30. Let me know if you decide to sell yours haha.

    .375 Cal Suppressor anyone?

Almost as useless as 3rd party data that is bought and paid for by manufacturers and can’t be replicated? The event included all manufacturers who wanted to attend and test their products. It wasn’t TBAC doing all the testing and attempting to hide or skew results. Either way, just another data...

    .375 Cal Suppressor anyone?

I’m not downplaying it, but I’d say suppressing sound is one of several factors that should be considered when purchasing a suppressor. Length, weight, POI shift, accuracy, customer support from manufacturer, etc are other potential factors. There is a point of diminishing returns. Would you...

    .375 Cal Suppressor anyone?

I would take pewscience data with a grain of salt. You can read all about it on arfcom. Besides, a few dB difference here and there isn’t noticeable in the field. TBAC has been around since 2007 I believe. They are the gold standard in the precision can market. They really don’t have anything...

    Mountain rifles

You should take a look. Has lots of features for a reasonable price. Mine has been very accurate in 6.5prc @ 5.5lbs. The 7prc version is 6.0lbs. I'm a FFP fan as well but I decided to give this a chance. At only 10x on the top end, if I'm dialing it will be at 10x anyway. That was my thought...

    Mountain rifles

For "off the shelf" rifles, it's tough to beat a seekins havak element and perhaps an NF nxs 2-10 on top. That's my go to setup.

    Hats on safari

I know Rands comes to DSC. Do they sell hats there or just take orders? Assuming I liked a style there, would they be able to fit it to me? I have a goofy shaped head I guess, and generic hats don’t fit me well.

Recommendations for the Best Thermal Vision Scope for Night Hunting?

Do you have a budget in mind? Lots of options out there these days from chyna units to 1280 cores. I own and enjoy Trijicon which has now added recording function if that matters to you. Also own Pulsar and enjoy those as well. The advice to budget for scanner and scope is good advice. You...

Got my first elk hunt this year - Help me pick a cartridge

Without practice, yes. That’s also a good place for the 6.5prc. Good terminal performance without the recoil.

Got my first elk hunt this year - Help me pick a cartridge

Seems like this thread has run its course but I agree that 11.5lbs isn’t a great mountain rifle weight if you will be packing in. I didn’t see it mentioned if you will be using horses or your target elevation. Elk are where they are so keep that in mind. My last CO elk was shot at 12.2k.

Got my first elk hunt this year - Help me pick a cartridge

My choice has been 6.5prc but I’m not familiar with that bullet which seems light for the cartridge. I’ve killed bulls with 140vld and 140eldx though.

Hearing protection for upcoming Cape Buffalo hunt

Suppressor is my preference but I also have some Westone silicone non electronic that I use when unsuppressed. Put left ear in and then the right ear just before taking the shot or on final stalk. Not ideal but has worked for me so far.
  40. S

    458 Lott Suppressor

Yep, just modular vs non modular. I seem to leave all my modular cans in one configuration so I’m over that fad at this point.

    Hybrid should work fine.

SOUTH AFRICA: Limcroma Safaris South Africa 3-10 May

Thanks for the response. The dates available for us would be in the three rivers lodge. Have you ever stayed there? How was it? Are there many other hunters in camp at the same time? I suppose we can take this to PM if you’d rather not clutter your thread.

SOUTH AFRICA: Limcroma Safaris South Africa 3-10 May

Great report. I’ve been talking to Limcroma about a hunt next year late May. Couple questions of you don’t mind: Which lodge did you stay in? How’s the weather in early May? Was hoping it would start to cool off a bit by late May. Were kudu rutting at all? How large were the majority of the...

    Siting in a Trijicon RMR

I always just start close to get it on paper. Maybe 20yds or so. If you have a rest, take a shot. If you can see your impact, steady in the rest, then adjust the dot to your impact. Same concept as a one shot zero using a scope. Then I fine tune at whatever distance deemed necessary for that...

    Vortex Razor Scopes

Trijicon generally gets good reviews in the durability and tracking department. With that said, not all NF are heavy. The nxs 2-10 is actually lighter than the credo you mentioned at 20oz and with a larger objective. It is sfp but on a 10x scope it shouldn’t really matter too much. The nx8 1-8...

    Vortex Razor Scopes

I believe NF has a mil/le program too. Would be worth looking into for an IMO better scope than both Leupold and vortex.

Id rather have a NF 1-8 than either of those and it’s cheaper than the swaro.

    African Huntin Boots

I wore some hanwag makra trek lights and they were great in the mountains but a little loud for stalking. Sole is a little stiff. Probably try some zamberlan salathe on my next trip. Would like to try some Courteneys too At some point.
