    5 Stand

@PHOENIX PHIL and @Foxfyre were great guys to spend a morning breaking (or not) clays with. I brought my new to me little Ugartechea 28ga SxS. Shooting 9s with a 3/4oz load kept me at least breaking a few. The little sub gauge sure was fun to play with. I had never shot 5 stand before and have...

    Indulge me...Ruger no 1 thoughts.

Im eyeballing a couple 7x57 No. 1s on Gunbroker right now. Thinking of pairing a nice #1 and a bolt gun in .416 rem mag (or Rigby) on my next safari.

Ya I’ve got a new to me Ugartechea 28ga SxS that needs a few clays under its belt. Maybe three of us should figure out a day to go bust some clays.

New member researching their first safari

Welcome to AH! I’m not an expert on African hunting with only one safari under my belt but I’m willing to help whatever way I can. To your two listed companies, limcroma seems to have a good reputation. I can’t say I know anything of the other. For cost I look at this like a three year...

Who's Hog Crazy? Show us those Pigs!

Love hunting pigs. I don’t care if it’s feral hogs in Tx, or warthog in RSA.

What is going on with tipping culture in the hunting industry?

So i have no idea what is going on really. I will say that I try to tip as best I can. I’m not rich and it does take effort to save up for some of these trips. When we went to RSA last year I specifically allocated tip money including about $100/day for our PH. I think I ended up tipping him...

For sale or trade: Browning x bolt Hells canyon LR .300 WM

Hey all. I've got my .300 Winchester mag up for sale. It's a browning hells canyon long range (not the McMillan stocked model). I'm the original owner and it's got about 400 rounds down the barrel. It's a good rifle. Doesn't weigh too much about 10lbs scoped with a full mag and a bipod if I...

22-250 and 243 for "small" plains game

I’m no expert here. Having seen the internals of impala, warthog, steenbok, duiker, blesbok, and springbok though I have my opinion which is worth what you paid for it. I’d load up a .243 with a good Barnes bullet and go have fun. I wouldn’t hesitate to take any of the medium antelope or small...

Has anyone else been injured while hunting away from home?

I’ve been pretty lucky so far. Mostly scrapes, bruises, a few cuts that probably should have been stitched but that’s what superglue and duct tape are for. Only long lasting injury was due to my own stupidity. I shot a bull elk about 3 miles and 3,000 feet above the truck. My buddy and I decided...

    Texas in April Advice

Like the others have said. Exotics, turkey, and hogs are always fun. The fishing on the coast for redfish and sea trout, shark, and maybe even a tarpon if you go far enough south should be pretty decent in April. I would recommend hitting up south padre island for a few days and enjoy the...

How old to hunt Dangerous Game

Well I didn’t think this topic would garner this much interest. I think what many of you are saying is what I’m feeling. I love hunting with my kids and they both enjoy hunting so I want to keep that fire going. I don’t think I’ll be able to get them back to Africa for a hunt for the next 4...

How old to hunt Dangerous Game

I tried the search function for a bit then gave up. We went to RSA last year with my 10 and 11 year old kids. They had a blast! Taking 7 PG animals between the two of them including blue wildebeest, warthog, zebra, impala, blesbok, steenbok, and springbok. While we were there they got to see...

$25,000 in Africa excluding, flights, tips, and trophy shipment what would you do?

Oh I’m aware. This was just a fun game. My next real trip is probably going to be a trip to the eastern cape for eland and bush buck mostly.

$25,000 in Africa excluding, flights, tips, and trophy shipment what would you do?

Caprivi buffalo and eland. That should use most of the $25k. Then just take whatever the bush gives me the rest of the at least 14 day trip. Why the Caprivi? Because I’ve wanted to hunt there since reading about it in outdoor life as a little kid.

That’s a great list! Buff on the first trip. I like it. I am another AZ guy. Live in Globe. Can’t say I’ve done done the Catalina hunt. Only been here for about 5 years and have pretty much just focused on coues deer, and bear locally at least as far as AZ goes.

    Live Animal Relocation to USA

Honestly I don’t know the answer to that. However ranching of any kind isn’t the most flexible or nimble of business. So swapping back and forth unless absolutely pushed is pretty hard. I just know that from working with a number of cattle ranchers and it’s hard for them just to adjust herd size...

    Live Animal Relocation to USA

@Wishfulthinker580 it’s completely acceptable to have an opinion on this matter however one aspect of conservation that I haven’t seen be part of the argument is land value. So I hate subdivisions. I live in one for my wife’s sake but I really don’t like them. In Texas I hunt an exotic ranch of...

A thorough conversation with Swarovski - Conclusion: Rookhawk knows nothing and is wrong about everything

I mean I kinda get it. The African hunter and especially the dangerous game hunter is a niche market. I have a very large circle of friends that hunt. I’m the only one who has even been to Africa. The long range market (yes I have long range rifles too) is much larger and at least here in the...

Chinese mine causes environmental disaster in zambia on the kafue river

I live in a copper town. Yes the damage is real and anyone who says it’s not is self serving and only interested in the money in their pockets. This whole scene reminds me of the disaster (and I don’t use that term lightly) that happened in CO a few years ago. It’s a terrible experience for...

    How far were your shots?

We went to Limpopo (Waterburg mountains and surrounding areas) last June. Kids and I took 12 animals total. Plenty of African animals here in the states. Eland, scimitar horned oryx, gemsbok, bongo, kudu, wildebeest, zebra, aoudad sheep, ostrich, probably some others are all available to hunt in Texas and even New Mexico. My buddy killed an oryx a few weeks ago and I turned down a eland bull that...

    Probably another foolhardy idea…

I’d be into this type of idea. I think as long as folks are smart about it and people treat it like just two friends trading hunting experiences (I do this already anyway) there shouldn’t be any issues with guiding in a legal sense. Some of us probably have some cool local stuff. I don’t have...

    So Bye-Bye Miss American Pie

I’m 35. I grew up thinking elk and mule deer were unobtainable. Then I moved to Colorado when I was 21. Killed a pile of elk, and deer and bears, and pronghorn since then. Then in 2020 COVID happened. “Telework” started and people moved to the western states in droves. Social media made it look...
