is this a ‘put and take’ hunt or are these hunted on a farm with a self sustaining population? Thanks.

    Opinions on this shipping quote

I didn’t use Yellow Shark but they quoted slightly lower than Pronto. Like you, I discovered that if I wanted to use another shipping agent I’d have to pay Pronto the fee for collecting my trophies at the outfitter and delivering to the taxidermist. The cost of delivering my trophies to the...

Am I being scammed? Import into Toronto

Based on my recent research, I haven’t see anywhere that charged even close to as low as $200 for a Zebra flat skin in Namibia or South Africa. Splitting Image is basically charging $110-200USD just for antelope euro mounts. Add on an additional $150 for a shield. It’s $750 for a Zebra flat...

    Black versus blue wildebeest rug

Does a black wildebeest make a good rug like the blue wildebeest? It appears people generally prefer the blue as I can’t find pictures or info online about black rugs. Any thoughts or opinions? Also, besides zebra and blue wildebeest can people tell me what other plains game hides make good...

Am I being scammed? Import into Toronto

Are you saying everything is cleared but you can’t get ahold of Swissport to pick it up? Please let us know the damage once the dust settles. It’s interesting to shed more light on the costs associated with importing trophies. It’s also useful information for others for budgeting purposes...

Am I being scammed? Import into Toronto

To provide an update, CBSA investigated the matter and determined that 6 days of delay was due to their error and have agreed to reimburse me for those storage fees. I was quite surprised with that outcome. However, there was a total of 20 days storage fees and much of the delay was apparently...

Am I being scammed? Import into Toronto

Dmac, perhaps you can help me as you’ve done the process yourself. I’ve now reviewed the documentation and my shipment was approved by CFIA on June 6. However, Advanced provided an Air Waybill stamped by CBSA on June 14 and indicated they couldn’t pick it up until they received that document...

Am I being scammed? Import into Toronto

You’re right, it’s possible that it was out of their control. I’m going to file a complaint with CBSA once I’ve secured my trophies. That should shed some light on it. Also, everyone keeps saying Coppersmith. I think the broker is Cole International.

    Opinions on this shipping quote

I just checked my records. It was 1 carton 21KG actual weight and 33.5KG volumetric. Pronto charged me $810 USD. @Yellow Shark Logistics quoted $710 USD. African Shipping Service quoted $1,120 USD. All the above included export docs, vet check, etc. I went with Pronto because...

Am I being scammed? Import into Toronto

Does that include all costs like shipping, brokerage, storage fees, etc.? I’m starting to think guided domestic moose, elk and caribou hunts are more economical.

    Opinions on this shipping quote

I don’t have the invoice with dimensions currently available. However, I paid about $1,300 CAD shipping to get euro mounts and tanned hides for the following animals: kudu, oryx, springbok, zebra, and jackal. It was from Windhoek to Toronto. I think the airline was Turkish. Though it may have...

Am I being scammed? Import into Toronto

The taxidermist is claiming they contacted CBSA at some point while everything was in storage and was told by CBSA that CBSA lost the CITES certificate. However, CBSA then cleared it with a photocopy. I asked if there was any documentation and the taxidermist say it was just a phone call with...

Am I being scammed? Import into Toronto

Thanks for the response. I’ll be importing from South Africa after a plains game hunt in 2024. If you don’t mind, maybe around that time I’ll re-connect and ask you some more questions on how to do the process myself.

Am I being scammed? Import into Toronto

They’re not saying that the broker didn’t have the CITES certificate. In fact, I was included in all communications between taxidermist and exporter in Africa. So, I have copies of the that and the other docs. What the taxidermist (who’s in communication with Cole) is saying is that the CITES...

Am I being scammed? Import into Toronto

As an update, I spoke over the phone with the taxidermy shop again. Previously they said they “think” something happened with the CITES certificate. That story has now crystallized and shifted to CBSA told them they misplaced the original certificate but ultimately released the trophies with a...

Am I being scammed? Import into Toronto

I’ve contacted CBSA through the online portal. However, I feel it’ll be a long time before they’re able to respond. And I suspect they’ll have difficulty locating the paperwork. I don’t even know what the identifiers are. In any event, I’ll see what happens.

Am I being scammed? Import into Toronto

For clarity, it’s the brokers job to notify customs that the shipment is ready for inspection? Is there a specific form that’s submitted (and I can ask for)? I have this feeling they weren’t alerted in a timely manner or provided messed up documents.

Am I being scammed? Import into Toronto

I’m hoping someone can chime in that understands the process and can advise me if this situation is plausible. Am I being scammed? Import into Toronto

The shipping cost from Windhoek wasn’t that bad. It was around 1,300 CAD. I thought I was $1K left until my trophies were home. This was my first trip to Africa. I have another one booked for 2024 hunting sable in SA. After that I’ll likely be finished as I can’t afford all the incidental...

Am I being scammed? Import into Toronto

I didn’t even factor in storage fees as I assumed because I hired someone to take care of everything and pick it up, it’d be a non-issue. The taxidermists also didn’t specify this was something that could happen.

Am I being scammed? Import into Toronto

So, I hired a taxidermist to deal with the import of my trophies from Africa into Canada—Pearson in Toronto. Today, I was hit with a $1,800 bill for storage fees. I’ll still have brokerage and other fees, I assume. I asked for a detailed invoice and I was provided an invoice from Swissport...

Embargo placed on outgoing cargo from Windhoek

I’m using Advanced Taxidermy in Caledon, Ontario. They seem to be doing well. As of now, this situation isn’t really a big deal and so far everything’s gone smoothly and according to reasonable timeframes. My hope is this matter will resolve itself within a few weeks. But I’ll keep that...

Embargo placed on outgoing cargo from Windhoek

SOUTH AFRICA: Has Anyone Hunted With Wiets Safaris?

I appreciate the honest feedback. I’ve searched the site a lot but all I’ve ever noticed were positive reports about outfitters. So the above is refreshingly honest. I inquired about them because an amazing deal on a PG hunt came up. But if the outfitter isn’t reputable I’ll keep searching.
