    Threat to African Hunting?

I never thought I would say this but for the first time in almost 40 years I am NOT planning a trip to Africa. My reasons, I'm tired of being treated like an unlimited ATM machine by everyone involved in the trip. If I'm going to hunt, I want to bring my trophies home. Shipping, dip/pack...

Heads up on a 450/400 NE

I had one just like it in same caliber. Dream rifle except the LOP was too short for me and socked me every time I pulled the trigger. It was originally made for a big shot Indian and apparently he was a petite guy. Still a nice rifle.

    Bubye Valley Cape buffalo experience?

Just an fyi but the BVC is no longer a PG meca. I hunted it 2006, 08, 10, 13 and 15. Unbelievable amount of PG and leopard, everything in abundance. Just talked to a guy who hunted there last year, saw one wildebeast, two eland cows and handfull of impala. No kudu, nyala, sable, bushbuck...

What do you enjoy that money cannot buy?

My son, raising him, probably the only thing I've done right in my life. Sound: no doubt, a cape turtle dove cooing at an African water hole. Both of the above from the blessing of God.

Certainty Kills the Romance of the African Safari

One of the greatest joys of hunting is the "unexpected". Not knowing what will step out of the bush is the most exciting thing for me. I have hunting Old Mexico for over 4 decades and the reason is you never really know what will step out on big low fence country. Guys that feed deer like a...

    In Search Of .470 Capstick

I shot the original A Square .470 Capstick that was presented to Peter by the company when first introduced. A brutal weapon to shoot. For some reason, maybe because it just didn't fit me but one of the most punishing rifles I have ever shot.

I joined the 404 Jeffery Club!

Speaking of Wayne, I thought he quit doing those conversions a few years back. Is there someone else who does similar work? Wayne did a 9.3 x 62 CZ 550 conversion for me which turned out to be a jewel.

    Brno rifles big bore

Anyone out there have the Brno 602 in 404J they would part with??? Don't know till you ask, LOL I have a CZ in the 416 Rigby, nice rifle for the money but I would consider giving up a left nut for a 404J original.

    Brno rifles big bore

I have a 602 Brno in a .375 caliber. Very impressed with the quality. I believe Brno also made the 602 in 416 Rigby and 458. Does anyone know if they made it in a 404. I would be keen to try and find one in the 416 or 404 if available. Anyone out there with one and consider selling??

Did anyone spend any money so far at the Atlanta DSC convention?

Back in 1988 I went to DSC when they were still at the airport. Had $5500 tip cash in my pocket from past five years of guiding. I was finally going on a dall sheep hunt that I had dreamed about since I was a kid. Problem was none of the guides would give me the time of day. As I dejectedly...

Trying to understand land cruiser import situation

You can import a brand new land cruiser but it can not be registered for highway use. For instance, if you have a big ranch and want it ONLY for hunting on your ranch than it can be done. You will need patience to get it done and will need someone who is familiar with the import process. You...

    Safari Vehicles in America

I had the 2H in the pickup in my pic. Why they left that engine in after doing all those upgrades is strange. The 1HZ would have been MUCH better and even better with a turbo. If you're going to spend the money, do it right.

I go back almost to the very beginning of DSC. Only missed two shows in close to 40 years. DSC(Dallas) was not only a convention but a tradition for my family. I didn't go to Atlanta last year and will never go to another DSC event. What they did was not only a bad decision but a gut shot...

ZIMBABWE: Has Anyone Hunted With Brent Hein Safaris?

I've hunted with him, I think 5 times. Pretty much everything. He does his homework and when you get there he will know where the animals are. Mostly BVC but last hunt was in Gauche Gauche Campfire area along Lake Kariba for hippo/croc/etc.

I stayed at the Commodore last August. Short walk to the wharf, great eating places, safe. It was a huge surprise after many trips through Joburg and that anxiety. They have an incredible breakfast buffet. Only regret was we didn't stay an extra day. VERY reasonable for everything.

Finally found one of the Rarest A-SQUARE Hannibal Rifles

I have personally shot the A square in .470 Capstick that was made for Peter. It is a hand full and one of if not the most brutal weapon I have ever fired. I would think the .458 would be a creampuff to shoot.

Word of caution (first hand) about hunting Mexico now

I've hunted norther Mexico for going on 45 years for whitetail. Next to Africa, is my absolute favorite place in the world to hunt. Hunting giant whitetail deer in a pristine environment. Dangerous, no doubt. I have my own set of rules that I NEVER break. I have never had a serious...

My shipment came in the week after Cindi and John retired, Jan was a huge help getting to the finish line. I picked up directly from them in Houston. Probably my last trip so I would call that "crossing the finish line" as well. 13 trips across the pond, best money I ever spent.

Any personal experience with hunting big mule deer in Mexico or Canada?

Mexico mule deer is on my wish list but it coincides with the whitetail rut in northern Mexico along the border. 43 years hunting down there and I still can't get enough of it. Anyone does an Alberta whitetail hunt this fall, please make a report.
