First time safari for one year anniversary

Reviews aren’t everything. I’ve hunted with an outfitter who has zero reviews, no website, no online information, and doesn’t go to a single marketing or Sportsmans show. It’s 100% word of mouth and repeat clients. That said, have you confirmed the size of the property and location for the...

Help! I need a new outfitter

These details would have been great in your first post which should have been titled “Looking for a Travel Agent that specializes in Hunting”. You’re Booking Agent or Travel Agent passed away not your outfitter. Definitely helps to use the right terminology. You have an Outfitter - it’s Mokore...

All The Original Perfect Shot II Artwork For Sale

This is an amazing opportunity but one I feel like likely out of my price range. I love the book and have bought copies for several friends before their first Safari. Have you thought about offering them to SCI or DSC for purchase and they in turn can auction them off to raise additional...

    Hunt Nation

I’ve used them to arrange a couple of hunts (none in Africa). They’re a great resource when looking for specific locations or species. I’ve seen where they had a deal you couldn’t get the same pricing direct from an outfitter and I’ve seen where the outfitter would offer the same price or lower...

Help! I need a new outfitter

The hunts booked or your airfare is booked? What area of Zim? Who was the outfitter? Who’s running the operation now? What of your deposit? What the outfitter your PH or did he have a PH working for him? How long ago did the outfitter pass? How’d you find out and what’d they tell you was...

    Looking to buy 458wm ammo

I've got a bunch of different types of 458WM including some newer Federal A-Frames, Solids, and potentially Bear Claws. I'll be home this weekend. Shoot me a PM and I'll get a list of what I have.

If you’re in the Hill Country area Los Caz should have both calibers. They did earlier this month when I was in 2 of their stores

Bringing 2 guns on a dangerous game hunt?

@Red Leg maybe I’m different but when I travel for a big hunt or a limited entry draw tag I almost ALWAYS bring 2 rifles or confirm there will be a second spare rifle in camp. I learned that lesson in Idaho using horses to hunt and had a little incident and cracked the stock on my 700 BDL...

Cost for Me To Take The Big 5

This is going on the assumption you just want to check the box and not go back to Africa or after any of these species again but IF you can do your Big 5 on a single 21 or 28 Day Trip (accounting for time in RSA for a Rhino or CBL if you don’t want a Wild Lion) it will be 100% more cost...

Any love for the federal terminal ascent?

This is just my curiosity but I wonder if it has something to do with their hair/fur structure of those African animals or the distance. Has it only been on African Antelope or have you seen the same on US animals? I shot an Oryx with the same 300WM load you used in New Mexico last year and...

Classic and Collectible Car and Motorcycle Thread

Looks like we’ve got very similar passions. Might as well add bourbon and cigars too. First up is a 73 Nova. This was my first car, bought when I was 15 as the second owner. I’ve been debating bringing here down to Texas and repowering/restoring her. Next we have a 1970 Lemans Sport I...

Cost for Me To Take The Big 5

Y'all should look at Mozambique if you haven't. Your Moz, leopard makes me think you might already have the Suni and Red/Blue Duikers. If you dont and you pick your area right you can add Grysbok, and Oribi. I'm booked for 2026. Went back and forth between Zambeze Delta and Mashambanzou Safaris...

Bringing 2 guns on a dangerous game hunt?

I bring something .375 or larger on every hunt, including plains game. You never know if you'll have a sudden reduced price opportunity at dangerous game. Happened to me in Namibia for Lion and Elephant. I also almost always bring another smaller caliber rifle like a .300 H&H, .308Win, .30-06...

Does the price of ammo impact your choice of a rifle caliber

I own a fair variety of calibers. Several of my preferred calibers (.257Wby, .257Roberts, .275Rigby, .280AI, .300H&H) aren't the most common or have the cheapest ammo options, but I still hunt with them anyways. The cost of ammo isn't something I consider, or the availability of it. Personally...

Cost for Me To Take The Big 5

A lot can change price wise between now and 2028. Here’s how I book/plan future hunts; I take current pricing and adjust for a 5% increase for each year from present that I’m considering or looking at taking the hunt. Some outfitters will contract/lock you into current pricing for a future...

Any love for the federal terminal ascent?

Yah it’s definitely a good baseline, especially if you know the rough parameters of what the differences are. If they’re comparing different bullets with the same gel and other variables at least the data set is flawed the same to give you some sense of an idea. I think the example they show in...

    300 H&H

I’ve got a slightly older M70 that loves the old Federal Loaded 180gr Trophy Tips. Took an awe some Impala in Namibia with her several years ago. Luckily I stocked up on ammo before they stopped making it. Same gun didn’t shoot the factory Accubond loads or an old box of partitions worth a damn...

Welcome! Glad you got on the AH board. Not sure if you’re planning on being a sponsor to advertise but I’ll be one of the first to recommend your work. I’ve managed to talk myself out of starting/sending you multiple projects this year and we’re not even 25% through it

Any love for the federal terminal ascent?

Not to nitpick but it should be noted that the Clear Ballistic Gel isn’t the same as True Ballistic Gel. True ballistic gel won’t be clear, it’ll be yellowish. The clear gel is super popular for YouTubers and can be bought cheap so it works great for videos. It’s also easier and less time...

    Airfare rates

I’ve flown DFW to RSA on BA with firearms. It’s possible to do. Make sure all legs of your flight are on British Airways planes. If there’s an American to British, code share that’s where you’ll run into issues with the guns. They consider that a carrier swap and won’t change the guns over.

    Good Gun Deals This Week

Can’t say any of my animals have had hair blown off on an entrance wound like that, even with my 300WM but that’s interesting to see and hear. Did it just happen on the Impala or did it happen on other animals too

300H&H isn’t offered in Terminal Ascent and I believe all the Trophy Bonded Tipped SKU’s have been discontinued. I’ve got a bunch of 300H&H guns and stocked up on TBT when I heard i was getting discontinued.

Any love for the federal terminal ascent?

As @375Fox said, these are my preferred bullet, but unfortunately they're not loaded or sold as projectiles in all the calibers I shoot or it's likely the only thing I'd shoot. I shoot the 155's in my 280AI and the accuracy is sub 1/2 MOA if I'm doing my job. Over the last 2.5 years I've used...

Rouan, not to derail the thread any, but are there any updates on USFWS import approvals for Elephants coming out of Mozambique? Is that something yall have been working on/pushing for? Update from DSC annual meeting

100% agree, the end of the year is a great opportunity and likely much better than something closer to TTHA or the HSC dates. There are a lot of hunters who haven’t booked hunts but shopped several options. There are also a lot of outfitters who will still have a handful of open dates for the...

Taking my nephew on his first hunt

You might think about Turkey season. Typically it’s a little more action packed and doesn’t require the same amount of time in a single spot or style. Have you thought about out also taking your BIL hunting? Why convert 1 hunter when you can create 2.

Looking for gun shop in Georgia, USA

Kevin’s is a really cool shop and well worth the visit. I’d also add Adventure Outdoors in Smyrna for sheer size or Gable Sporting Goods in Douglasville as potential shops if you’re up around the Atlanta area. Several years ago, I met Travis Tritt in Gable SG.

    Winchester Pre-64 Model 70 Supergrade African 458 (1956)

I didn't even catch the "African" on the base plate ... Kind of makes me want to compare the Super Grade marking to one of the ones I have, since I've seen a "fake" Super Grade Floor Plate. To me this points more to it being a parts gun that someone tried to clone or make into a fake African...

Any of the free range areas offering Buffalo won’t have different prices by size. You might also see multiple different prices on the trophy fee, and this typically signifies 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th cost. Listen to this man on Model 70’s!! @Rowbeeone you should prepare the estate to get about $2k. Their best bet is listing this on Gun Broker and letting bidders have at it/hoping someone gets caught-up in the moment. Below are the things I notice at first glance which detract from value, but...
