I did it in 2019 so I can't speak of the current shark sightings. On my trip with Great White Shark Tours in Gansbaai we seen 3 white sharks plus several other kinds. It was a great time.
I used 250 grain iron wills and a 700 gr grizzly stick. Shooting a 80lb Hoyt. The Buff went about 60 yards with a double lung shot. The only issue I had with the grizzly sticks was some of the weighted inserts coming lose. A little loc-tite fixed the issue.
Congrats on getting your first safari booked. I went for the first time in 2019 at the age of 44 and the second time in 2023. All animals taken with a bow. There is nothing like it but I will warn you it is addictive.
From 2023 South Africa hunt. I had 2 crates. One had a cape buff horns and cape. It also had sable horns and cape. The other crate had 3 pig skulls and one bush pig cape. Dip and pack was 400. Shipping was 2200 and brokage fee was 400.
I used them for my 2019 trip and have nothing but good things to say about them. Also have stuff with them now from my 2023 trip. Below is the link to my favorite mount he did.

Well written post that pretty much sums up my whitetail hunting life. My two biggest issues with modern whitetail hunting is the price of midwestern leases and the judgement of others in the whitetail hunting community. The leases have got to the place where I am not willing to pay it anymore...
As a 50 year old I am asking the same questions. I have dabbled in the crypto market but the bulk of my assets are invested in good ole US stocks. I guess if the USD fails then nothing else is really going to matter.
My July experience with them was not good. They canceled my flight from Pittsburgh to Newark which caused me to miss my flight to Joburg. This cost me a day of hunting. On the way back, I made it home on Sunday and my bows did not make it until Friday.
I will give you two to checkout. I hunted with Damara dik dik safaris (10000 acres) in Namibia on a plains game hunt in 2019. I just got back from a successful Cape Buffalo/ Sable combo hunt at Chattaronga Safaris (17000 acres). I wouldn't hesitate to go back to either place. They both...
I am leaving for my first cape buffalo hunt on Sunday and taking a break from packing and final fine tuning.. Lets see some pictures of your cape kills. As if I need to be any more pumped up. Bonus for bow kills as that is what I am using.
I was planning on hunting a giraffe on my upcoming archery Buffalo hunt since I would have the right setup to take one.. However, after seeing the cost of tanning and mounting I decided against it.
Following this thread closely. As of right now, I plan on using a 700 gr Grizzly Stick 240 tipped with a 250 gr Iron Will on my July 2023 Cape Buff hunt. Shooting an 80lb Hoyt VTM 34 with 29.75 draw.
Good question. On all my export paper work it is just listed as Eland. I know it is the common eland but not which of the subspecies. Killed close to Etosha.
Very much enjoyed reading your trip report so far. I am very interested in hearing about bowhunting countries other than Namibia and South Africa. Beautiful Eland.
