It’s actually the same speed the Barnes factory 180 ammo shoots out of my builds. Was a surprise for sure. But my 300wm handloads run 210’s at close to that speed
Spent a little time doubling checking the rifles this AM before we head out next week. Tried a technique from back in my 3 Gun competition days with the 375 H&H Improved. I wanted to make things easy to where it was a point and shoot. Zero'd it at 40 yds and it stays within the dot on my NX8...
The 300 PRC and 300 WM are really ballistic twins. Only difference is you can find 300 win mag ammo if yours goes missing really anywhere in the world. If you already own a 300 PRC then it will work fine since the 300wm and h&h are very well proven in Africa.
I have the 4 stable sticks aluminum and a set of gunstix. The gunstix are more stable and easier to adjust. The 4 stable sticks have a lot of flex in the and feel ”cheap”. I bought them since they would fit into my suitcase but I’m going to sell them and buy a set of the viper flex carbon pro.
375 H&H Improved and 30-06 Improved are what I’m taking this trip. The ackley chambers will allow me to use factory ammo should mine go missing. Buff and plains game are on the agenda.
I wanted to really like the lems boulder grip boot but after the, sending me 3 different pairs with he toe box being messed up in each one it have up. Ordered a pair of Courtney’s selous from Jim at African Creations. He sent me two pairs with different insoles to get a perfect fit. Very...
Thanks guys. I’m departing out of Texas also so probably won’t be an issue. I may just use one of my pelican cases and put the rifles inside it with soft cases rather than the cut foam.
Considering ordering a tuffpak for my upcoming trip. I know you cannot put clothes in with guns to RSA anymore but can a guy put a daypack and boots in with the rifles? Just trying to figure out how to pack some stuff around the two rifles in their soft cases
Keep bugging them guys. I bought up most of their CRF actions at when they discontinued them for builds. I keep telling them there is market out there. The problem was that they lost the supplier for the extractor and 3pos safety parts. If there is enough demand, they may just bring the...
I use a special coating the guys at KG Industries developed for me 18 years ago. It goes into the metal pores and protects. Alot more time consuming for application, but the finish is as close to a smooth bluing look as I can get. The downside with cerakote is that it is just a ceramic paint...
I would go with Varget over RL15. RL15 isn't very temp stable. When I used it long ago in match shooting I had to have a morning load and afternoon load. Varget is much more stable and should get you in that speed range. Interesting on the North Forks not feeding. I've been trying to get...
@JG26Irish_2 the barrel is a 12 twist. I run h4895 with a 270 hornady for my fireform load. My coal is right at 3.7”. What powder are you going to run?
lol. Just trying to help. I get to cheat a little having a pressure test and having 20+ years of messing around with quick load and designing cartridges.
Sounds like you have a shooter as well!
Quickload's files for the improved cases aren't quite correct with modern throat geometry. They tend to use a weird wildcat pressure method. Taking the parent case and adjusting the case capacity works much better. A couple of other things are off as well, OAL and weighing factor. Since I...
There really isn't any load data for the 375 H&H improved, especially using RL16. I used my pressure gauge once I did a rough load workup to make sure I was safe.
Yes, it’s one of my builds. I’m not a sponsor yet so I’m not to promote. It’s one of my crf actions w/3 pos safety, triggertech, krieger barrel and a modified manners uc-plus stock.
Just where it ended up during load workup. I may drop back and look for a lower node around 2700. I’m on my 7th firing now with my test brass using that 2800fps load and my pressure gauge shows I’m still about 10% below max pressure.
Getting a couple of rifles ready to go for my July trip. Finally settled on a load for my 375 h&h improved. Running 300gr a frames at 2800. Target is 5 shots at 100 yds using the bullet hole as my aim point. Swapped out the scope for a Nightforce NX8 1-8 and now it’s ready to roll. Now to...
Nice looking rifle! The 375 h&h is definitely a fun one to shoot. I built the improved version for myself and shoot it more than most of my other rifles. It’s just to much fun.
Thanks. The early ones definitely had some issues. I don’t think the wood, fit and finish was as nice either back then. Since IFG started importing them the quality seems to have gotten much better. Definitely a good value for a double rifle.
Have a like new Sabatti Big 5 EDL 470 Nitro Express w/ejectors. Fired 2 times. I purchased is directly from Italian Firearms Group (the importer) last Spring. Just can't see it being a safe queen as I will be using my own built rifles on my hunting trips since that is what I do for a living...
What are guys preferences for iron sights as both a backup to qd scope mounts and a primary on a dg rifle? Seems like a aperture style ghost ring and a front sight would be a good choice but looking for opinions. On the scoped rifles the rear sight could go on the qd mount when the scope was...
Yes, have a couple new platforms I’m working on. Will cover my Alaska and safari clients. Have a trip booked with Marius at @KMG Hunting Safaris and will probably use them on that hunt also.
