I agree with Tanks, there is plenty of 500 NE ammo in the camps I hunt in. Also, reloading this straight wall cartridge is easy. As an aside, my niece who s 5’7” 128#s shoots the 500 and describes it as a “big push” I have video on my phone but not the skill to up load it here.

I cut 2 pieces of cane about 6 feet in length and connect/ tie them with a piece on inner tube about 6-8 inches down form the top. What works for me is I angle them out and press against them to steady the gun vs using them as a vertical rest.

The only way you can stop a charging Cape Buffalo is a brain shot. They can run as fast as a quarter horse. I guess I am one of the few that has had that experience . It was over 20 years ago _ Barrie Duckworth told me the same. It was an ass kicking.

Reading other's tales of recoil horror one would think so. For me shooting this rifle feels like a big push. Perhaps it's the weight. The only place I have read about dethatched retinas shooting rifles are on African hunting sites LOL

My 500 NE weighs 13#. It's well balanced and since it fits, the recoil is really a big push. When I shoot it to practice, I always shoot both barrels, I suppose some would call it a "double tap." It helps me stay on the gun, and my eyes on the target.

I ordered and received my double rifle years ago so I am out of the loop on the purchasing process. Do the current makers do initial fitting upon order and then give you the opportunity to shoot the rifle in the white and make adjustments to gun fit,point of aim, balance etc?
