The West Coast is a great place to hunt.
Make sure you hire a mountain radio from www.mountainradio.co.nz, you get two weather forecasts a day and can get messages to the helicopter company if you need to get picked up early. It'll be a great adventure.
Mike.
Yes the accommodation isn't the best but most of the hunts I do in New Zealand I'm sleeping in a tent on the ground so it doesn't worry me, but yes you are right the outfitters need to spend a bit more money on their camps, vehicles and gear for their guides, like binoculars and knifes.
I tipped...
Thanks for your comments. I would just like to make sure it's clear that our hunt was with Rinat not Kairat.
The problem I have is with Rinat and Theo.

My hunt was in October 2012, I think we were the next group after the group that got arrested, so I think we just got lucky.
When I was there in November I asked a few people if they knew of Adilet, none of them had heard of him at all so I don't think he is still in the hunting industry any...
Hi Gregoire,
I seem to have been dragged into something that has nothing to do with me( the email link still goes through to me).
Yes I had a good hunt with Adilet. I shot a nice ibex, saw a lot of animals, had good Guides and was able to take my trophy home with me. I didn't ask or offer to be...
I'm sad to hear that your trip did not go well. I booked a hunt with Igor at the start of october and found that yes some officials were corrupt but Igors business partner made sure that we were looked after and that no bribes were payed. I also found that their guides to be very trustworthy and...
I was talking on the phone to a friend last night and happened to look at the bush line across from my house and saw a good sized pig, so I ended the conversation grabbed my rifle and ended up getting this boar.
Mike.
I take it you will be hunting with a bow, quite an accomplishment if you can make it happen. If no outfitter takes you up on your swap and you still want to hunt NZ I don't mind helping with any info- no swap needed.
Bigun, just south of Franz Josef.
Roger, good luck for your tahr hunt. The west coast has higher animal numbers than the east side of the alps mainly due to there being more cover for them to hide, I'm sure have alot of fun.
Here are a few photos from my last solo backpack hunt from the west coast of the south Island. It involved a 25Km hike to get to the head of the valley . Weather wise I had a bit of everything, heavy rain a bit of snow and enough fine breaks to get out and have a good look around. Over the six...
