Anything is possible, my wife and I went dove hunting and fishing on our honeymoon. But with that being said we met on a blind fishing date!
We will be in the Limpopo for our 30th anniversary trip.
Good luck.
Why would you test bullets by shooting them into a non-compressible substance like water? Seems like it would be better in ballistic jell with bone structure.
Every morning I take a look at G4A Facebook page, I can stay on it for a few minutes until I’m blocked as I don’t have a an account. This morning they had a video of a tracker and Rocky sneaking up on a wounded kudu. It’s amazing how stealthy an African tracker can be even if the animal is...
I used to have a table top pedestal with a feral hog skull on it. I thought it was pretty good but I ended up needing that space and went to skull hookers.
I probably still have the pedestal somewhere and will take a picture of it when I get home if I can find it.
Was your rifle shooting well before the gunsmith got a hold of it? If so he owes you to make it right. IMO
Side note , I had a friend that had his over/under ceracoated and when he got it back the thing wouldn’t even shut. I’ve had 2 rifles ceracoated with no issues so it seems to be a crap...
Good choice to add a waterbuck in Coutada 11, I walked away from some giants in Coutada 10 and have regretted it ever since. I did get an outstanding bull in 2018 hunting with Game 4 Africa to rectify the situation.
I guess it would depend on what country and if all of the CITES paperwork is in order.
I believe there is still a pair in the “don’t even try” to bring this in the country case in Atlanta!
That’s not too bad but the volumetric weight and dimensions would help.
Are you picking the crate up at coppersmiths or having it trucked to your house?
This true, same with whitetail deer in many places in the south. I was just comparing pheasant to @grand veneur comments about Cape buffalo being relocated out of herds from South African National parks into Mozambique. I did find some information about buff being released in some areas mainly...
My hope is to “bookend” wild expensive hunts. I started out in Mozambique and now have done several affordable RSA hunts with one to come in around a month, I’m then going to concentrate on going back to Mozambique or Zambia to do a grand finale.
I would definitely agree with this, my sable and nyala from Mozambiques Coutada 10 are much more important to me than my roan. I do really like the roan even though He was an auction hunt during Covid so I got him at a greatly reduced price. Not sure if I’ll ever get to an area where roan run wild.
This is anecdotal, the farm that I shot a roan on several years ago was around 17,000 acres. They had what looked like to me a thriving herd of roan and sable. I can’t remember the number of sable they would take a year but the roan quota was 2 bulls per year. We saw a good mix of mature bulls...
Another monkey wrench in the pie, we have to remember that every pheasant, Hungarian partridge and chucker ever shot in North America are the descendants of captive birds that came over on a ship. For which I’m grateful because they are so damned fun to hunt and eat.
I didn’t read the whole thread so apologies if this has been brought up.
There is a book called “I Killed for a Living” I don’t remember the author. It details hunting in Vietnam up until the US involvement ramps up. Its good up to the end when he basically condemns hunting. All of the big...
Thanks @Hunter-Habib, I see you have a sweet tooth so to speak for fried chicken. It would be a pleasure to share a bucket with you one day.
Happy birthday America and thanks to all that have served to protect our country!
Unfortunately paying out the nose is a part of it. What you do with the trophies is a very personal thing. They are very important to me and I would never leave them behind but the time will come when I have no more room for mounts and I might have to just take pictures and videos. Then in a few...
TOPS permits normally aren’t difficult to get, I’ve gotten them for roan and common reedbuck. They had to reissue the reedbuck export permit several times due to delays from Covid.
I was down with tick fever last August, felt bad the whole month. I had to have 2 rounds of doxycycline.
I’m going to see if my doctor will give me a prescription to have on hand.
Doxycycline should fix you up straight away.
Good to be home I’m sure!
You would think the safari company would hire someone with a truck that has everything you need. Did you ever find out why they wouldn’t put fuel straight in the fuel tank?
On the original video the PHASA leader mentioned ear tags. I’ve been on 6 farms in the Eastern Cape , 2 in the Limpopo and 3 in the Northwest province. I’ve yet to see an ear tag. I don’t doubt they are used but I just haven’t seen them.
The house my dad grew up in is in the Shenandoah valley of Virginia. One of the last battles of the civil war was fought in the back yard. It was Custer against Beauregard, the house was riddled with mini balls and cannon fire. The root cellar was a make shift aid station. Dad would tell stories...
In my opinion it’s better to gain a whole animal with a little meat damage than loose the whole thing!
Don’t let this yaahoo sour you on Africa, he seems to be the exception to the rule.
I was unclear, genetically modified whitetail that are basically sold by the inch and behind high fence. The wild whitetail have no restrictions, and no fences where they move.
My poor typing skills can’t keep up with my wandering mind.
By the way a really don’t have a problem with the genetic...
Didn’t realize buffalo were transplanted to Mozambique from South Africa, but the genetics of the buffalo I’ve seen in South Africa and the ones in Mozambique don’t look the same to me.
@grand veneur , I think you are confusing managed and farmed. The millions of whitetail deer in the US are managed through bag limits, sex restrictions, seasons and in some cases size. There are some farmed whitetail but most are on wide open areas where their only impediments are how far their...
Couldn’t agree more! My wife’s cousin came over one day to look at my trophies, I have a buffalo that may be 38” and a sable that was 39 1/2”. The only reason I know what the sable measured is because my PH was so excited about it he pulled out a tape as soon as I shot it.
The cousin made some...
Does he not think that hunting buffalo in one of the reserves around Kruger like Timbavati is “free range”. Those buffalo have thousands and thousands of acres to roam. He states there is no “free range” buffalo in RSA.
To his point though, people shouldn’t be banned for opinions or questions...
That’s a very interesting chart. On my second day of hunting in Mozambiques Coutada 10, which no way can be considered not wild, my Ph stopped the truck and said “ let’s go for a walk, there is a great sable that lives here along with a bull with one horn” twenty minutes later we found them...
You should’ve talked to the owner about the cow wildebeest, I definitely see how it can happen though. Wildebeest, hartebeest and gemsbok can all be difficult to sex for even some really experienced hunters but aPH should not make that mistake but if they do they should own up to it.
???
If you’re talking about the wildebeest/crocodile scene, the wildebeest jumping is actually a “kings” wildebeest, one of the designer blue wildebeest and the two swimming are “regular” blue wildebeest. But to your point if the artist was trying to duplicate the wildebeest migration of Kenya...
