As to the original question yes the 500 Jeff with 570gr leaves more lasting impressions on game than the 458 Lott with 500gr bullets. But you need to be able to handle them and still hit your target.

I just love my Lott a Lott more. Older thread but the Lott just keeps doing what the Lott must do sending 500gr bullets from 2250fps (softs) to 2300fps (solids) in my rifle.

Congrats on a thumper you can do what a 458 Lott can do on a mild load or you can even chase 460 Weatherby. Then if you really feel like having enough gun there is the option of 600gr bullet at 2300fps or more. :ROFLMAO: Thats breaking the 7000 ftl/lbs mark !!!! Hope you can easily find...

I think that the build of a 500 Jeff has two purposes one is wanting one and one is using one and I fully agree and seen enough 500 Jeff's on our BASA Big Bore ranges. A std action will work but will need more work on the feeding and in the end the longer magnum action just does it better...
