    Lioness with revolver

This is the typical expansion for the XTP from the 454. The bullet was retrieved from a log after passing through both shoulders of a wild boar. I believe it lost about 25 grains of the original 300gr weight.

    Lioness with revolver

I would use the swift A-frame if I do it again, I also had a number of the old 300gr nosler HG partitions loaded up but I choose the XTP based on previous performance and Doctari’s suggestion to not use premium bullets (at least for a rifle).

    Lioness with revolver

It is kind of a joke back home. That is the club pistol shoot medal (plastic) I won just before my trip. I did the same with the buffalo I shot a couple years ago.

    Lioness with revolver

Freedom Arms Model 83 in 454 Casull with 7-1/2” barrel. That is a Burris FASTFIRE 2 4MOA sight with a Freedom Arms red dot base.

    Lioness with revolver

After bumping the lioness numerous times (as close as 7-8 meters and once well after sunset), a near spine miss in the shoulders, and a kilometer track, she stood for a fight tail swishing and growling. After lifting her head in advance of the charge, I placed two quick shots offhand in the...

    460 S&W hunting bullet

This won’t help you with your search for bullets in SA, but I used hand made bullets in my 7.5” freedom arms 454. I hard cast RCBS 300gr gas check Keith wadcutter and swaged on a turned down 10mm auto case to the tip of the bullet. The finished bullet weighed 348gr and has a 0.43” metplat...

Dangerous Game Revolver Bullet, A Forgotten Design

I wasn‘t familiar with the punch bullet. It looks like a good design but they are no longer made unfortunately. I agree, the buster would be a much better bullet with a larger meplat. What about the 300XTPM loaded backwards? The case may have to be shortened to line up with the cannelure.

Dangerous Game Revolver Bullet, A Forgotten Design

When I decided to take a cape buffalo with my revolver there was only two types of dangerous game bullets available; monolithic solid copper or hard cast wide flat nose (WFN). The problem with the monolithic solid is the density of copper is about 15% less than lead and copper has greater...

.303 British, good for nothing or classic African cartridge?

The No1Mk3 should be a bit lighter than my No4, which weighs in at 7.8 lbs with the 22" barrel. That is about a pound heavier than I would prefer for a stalking rifle. I hope your dreams are fulfilled soon. Here is the first beast I took with the 303, down in Northern California. the guide...

    Ahoy from Washington State

For the last few years, I followed a number of threads on Africa Hunting especially on the 303 and 9.3x62. I learned a great deal and it helped me hone my weapons and hand loads. After returning from my second trip to Africa, using both those calibers, I have so much meaningful experience to...

.303 British, good for nothing or classic African cartridge?

Rule 303, To the best of my knowledge my rifle was factory sporterized by Parker Hale by the evidence of the Parker Hale front ramp. I shortened the forearm slightly and added a No5 800 yd singer sight. I have a 0.0625" aperture (same as an AR15) inserted into the stock 0.10" aperture and the...

.303 British, good for nothing or classic African cartridge?

I can attest to the 303 Enfields' effectiveness during My last trip to Africa. The trip was pure nostalgia; a 303 and a 9.3x62. The Parker -Hale Deluxe No.4 Mk1* made fast work of a large Kudu bull at 148 yards. Three clicks up on the Singer sight put the 215 Woodleigh, launching at 2250fps...
