Pass, the Worcestershire is for Bacon in the morning. The cooks in camp were surprised when I wanted Worcestershire sauce and tin spaghetti with Bacon and Eggs. The food was all great but those things go together for me.
I think the Vanguard action design closely copies an older model high quality brand.
You could spend more money and still not have a 7mm-08.
A lot of custom rifles use quality aftermarket triggers.
If the Vanguard action design is smooth and has a good trigger then they are 2 attributes you...
Agreed, and @NIGHTHAWK suggests other brands.
I happen to to own a few Tikkas and I have come to like them.
I wanted to chime in on the B&C stock. I like the feel and fit of those.
Through this site I have been enlightened to the cost of some hunts in the US. And the reasons some Americans hunt Africa regularly for affordable hunting.
Through this site I have met Aussies who have been and some who have not. I even met the Kiwi knife maker.
I have had online conversations...
Can you easily have a second upper/barrel for the AR10?
It really think the 7mm/08 is a great cartridge and I intend to have a .260 for a target rifle in the future
Not sure but .308 is not military but the 7.62x51 is but I read an article once saying .308 was illegal in an area the author wanted to hunt so he went 7mm-08.
That said .30-06 and 6.5x55 are certainly military cartridges. But so is the 7x57 and others, or at least they have been
I’m n Australia I would be confident to say that .308 am and rifles would outnumber .30-06 by a fair margin.
Maybe it will be hard to find in a shortage but there is no shortage of it in Australia.
I guess because the 7.62x51 was a military round and also a target rifle chambering for the Full...
I voted .308 and would suggest the same for a new shooter in Australia for all of the reasons others have stated.
The .30-06 should have been an option but I don’t own one but I have the .300wm.
I used a 7mmRm in South Africa but the pH said the .300wm would be a good choice for South...
@sgt_zim watch him, he will probably tell you that it is ok to drink Bundy before 9, mixed with cold tea.
Everyone knows you only drink coffee before 9am, day drinking starts at 10.
Without reading the whole thread I had a similar discussion about car keys last week.
Sadly all car keys are electronic these days even if you don’t want it
But the conversation was around changing batteries.
I said, it’s tragic when something goes wrong but we need to go back to commonsense
That’s right, it’s Bobs fault. Anytime the .35whelen gets a mention Bob comes to mind.
Kinda like the .243 Bob often gets a mention for being so passionate about these cartridges
I like Lamb , Hogget and Mutton. Maybe it’s an Aussie thing.
Speaking of dinner I will put a different twist on on this.
I met up with some guys from a hunting club and the dish in the image was in the fridge. It didn’t look that appealing but when reheated it came up great.
It’s a Persian...
Bob, Russ likes cartridges that start with a 4 in the description.
He hails from Victoria where the Sambar move silently through the scrub.
He likes his Sambar stoppers to sit’em where they hit’em , whop’em and stop’em dropping them on their butt so they stay sat.
i didn’t eat many pies but i know a Kiwi here that told me before I went over that their pies are better.
What impressed me most is the Bakery at Te Aneu adjoins the hunting store. It literally was an interconnecting doorway between shops
G’day from Australia.
We visited in March just gone. And done the southern half of the South Island. We did not get to Fairlie. 10 days is not enough and we might make it back sometime.
I think you have to gauge it as you go. You know the child and their likes etc.
It’s a great idea and plenty here have done it from reading this thread. My kids have been around firearms, my now adult son has shot a handful of animals but doesn’t have the drive to pursue hunting.
It’s great...
Yep, gonna need gun bearers and camp staff to do the carry soon.
I’m interested in long range shooting to learn more skills and gain the knowledge but I won’t be long range hunting.
It’s not good practice and not ethical hunting in my book.
Who wants to walk another 2000 yards to retrieve the animal.
What cartridge choices or minimum calibre and energy would be allowed officially or permitted if they are going to ensure clean kills on game at that distance with high...
Yes Bob it is a sweet looking cartridge. From the data I compared online nearly 5 years ago it comes close to 7mmRm ballistics with less recoil and mine is a lightweight rifle so it suits.
I tend to think 7mm is the sweet spot for an all round Aussie calibre. My 7mm-08 seems just as effective...
G’day from Australia.
Tell us more about your experience. Could you describe Upland game? I’m not familiar with the term.
This place is a slippery slope. It took me 10 months from joining to having feet on the ground in South Africa.
I met up with an AH member for a public land hunt.
This was all planned via messages we had never met etc.
When we set up and unpacked etc ready for hunting camp I noticed a sticker on the back of his car.
It simply said “Vegan Pride” that had me stumped as he claimed to be a meat hunter, came...
For a minute I thought you were referring to to @Fordy as Russ, Russell Coight that is.
Now he’s a funny fella if you have never seen him. I know in another time Fordy has been compared to likenesses of Russell Coight. Just another Aussie bush Larrikin.
I have no vices or bad habits. I’m to tight.
I haven’t owned a .270, a .30-06 or a .35Whelen
.30’s have there place and I will probably always have a .308 although I think the .280a.i is a sweet looking case and great performer. But like our Victorian friend I also have a .300wm because I...
Bob. .30 sits neatly between your favourites. You might develop a passion for the .30 ought’ six while in the US.
The good thing is you could always use the Whelen action for an ought six in you old age and go gardening with the .35 barrel.
For its time,
Razorback, Mad Max and a number of Australian movies have been made around the area I live. There are many landmarks and buildings I know well in those Australian movies
I think it took me about 10 months.
I found out early that it was cheaper than I thought. I opted for a cull hunt. Flights and all included came in at under 10K US currency
War is bad enough but what makes humans inhumane when dealing with POW’s?
I would like to think soldiers from civilised countries did not treat the enemy this way.
RedLeg’s information raises more questions for me.
If and when the the .277Fury becomes readily available for civilians will it have the same proprietary cases the military use to run 80k PSI?
Was there any research and development for a long range rifle or sniper rifle in the 6.8x51?
Will...
I hired a 7mm REM mag in South Africa. How do the Bobby’s feel about about that chambering?
Are rifles chambered in 7x64 readily available to you?
I like my .280ai
The outfitters wife has has taken some impressive Kudu with a .25-06
This may be non typical.
I wanted the Tracker and skinners included when they came out to retrieve my Wildebeest.
To me they were all a part of my experience.
I don’t consider my firearms as weapons and we are not allowed to use them as such. I’m fine with that but I don’t like the law classifying them as weapons.
Anything could be used as a weapon to attack someone or defend yourself. If I used a chair against an intruder I would likely be charged...
I would not go as far as to call it the idiot cartridge. I do like to make fun of it but it does well at what is intended to do.
I have not owned one to date and went to great lengths to set up with .260rem barrel for target shooting.
The 7mm-08 is a great hunting round and there are other...
