I agree. The problem with that shot with any caliber is unless you hit the heart you will most likely only catch one lung then the problems start

Africa...when will you be priced out??

Interesting what we do as we age…17 years ago I bought a 107 acre piece of property from my Uncle. Over those years I bought $50k in farm equipment, Invested $7500 per year in lime, seed and fertilizer building 35 acres of a combination of food plots and kill plots. Raised my children there with...

New vs vintage 450/400NE double rifle

While I completely agree with your point having the right LOP solves the vast majority of your problems along with proper weight for caliber. Having owned 8 it has worked well for me with the first disaster when I failed on both was a great teacher

Agree. While I have always with few exceptions gone with Delta strictly due to save hours not pain, they are just crazy now. When I looked up Qatar they were literally half the price of Delta...yes 33 hours with layover versus 15 hours no lay over but for the money savings and service of Qatar...

    Land Rover Verses Land Cruisers

While I absolutely love the vehicle being discussed here is the reality: 1. Are you ready to take it apart completely and get rid of the rust and repaint? 2. Can you source for the broken lights, etc.? 3. Do you have a great mechanic like I do using European Imports versus the Land Rover Dealer...

New vs vintage 450/400NE double rifle

Not so my friend...if you buy from George Caswell at Champlain he will take the 15 LOP Chapuis and cut to your own LOP...he did for me and does for anyone...the other distributors do not do this...plus George gives a lifetime guarantee...I know because I bought one in 450-400 3-inch NE.

New vs vintage 450/400NE double rifle

Agree here especially if you are not a reloader. With vintage you are taking cordite and relating it to powder today. It happens but very little chance you can buy loaded ammo that will regulate versus the modern Chapuis which I owned in 450-400 should regulate under normal conditions

Flying with guns in BA question

I had to fly BA from JNB to Heathrow due to a delta Cancellation then delta from their back home to ATL. I had to pay one fee of $125 for two rifles and ammo. I also had to fill out a form from hell and then after I finally checked them through at the gate an attendant came up from the plane...

I took a shortcut my friend even though I am a staunch reloader…I sent my Rigby 275 cases and Partition 175 grain bullets to Hendershots and they reloaded for me targeting 2500 FPS. They shoot clover leaf for me at 100 yards with my Rigby HS in 275 Rigby

    Taking guns to south Africa

They are not. So easy to do as follows: 1. get both rifles on form 4457. I always use a third party like Rifle Permits who will help you apply for your temporary rifle license well in advance. Could not be easier!

    Redfield scopes

They must have. When I was just 19 they were all the rage and my dad and I each had one on our Ruger M77 30-06’s.This was back in 1976. They lasted until 2010 when both scopes fogged up due to the seals finally giving out

Africa...when will you be priced out??

I lived 9 years in TX. Almost all hunting is on leases or outfitters. You can spend $500 to take a deer up to easily $25,000. My point is they are all over the board. In my opinion outfitter hunting worked better for me than a lease. Now it’s been over a decade since I lived their but then I...

    Elephant caliber

Agree which is why me personally nothing less than a 450, 470 or 500 NE. My point is your PH better have a heavy hitter beyond a 375 backing you for elephant in case of a charge or I am not hunting with them

    Elephant caliber

Good reply…your 375 will do the job with your PH backing you no problem. Me personally I want a 4 as the first number for elephant and I will be having that for my next two elephants in 27 and 28 in Moz and had one for my first. It really is about “want” not “need”. You don’t need anything...
