The current Mauser Magnum 98 actions used on both the Rigby and Mauser rifles is now made in-house by the Blaser Group in Isny Germany, Prechtl has not been making the current Blaser Group Mauser actions for quite sometime.

Really?? A costly feature?? Your comment “ not many people left that can do a plum (purple) finish” is priceless. Looks to me as a very old attempt at a refresh many years ago, along with a stock sanding. Looks as though many areas the checkering is flattened out and about gone too.

Has the barrel been reblued? The purple color on the barrel does not match the open sights, bottom metal , bases or the receiver. I don’t see the blueing turned purple on very many vintage rifles.

I too have a Schmidt & Bender Zenith 1.1-4 FD7. S&B are tough scopes.

Mauser name is owned by a conglomerate (Blaser Group). They have been selling the same Mauser 98 rifle without the DWM badging for several years. I agree the DWM name all over the action and bottom metal is too much.

Rookhawk offers good advice. I removed the Warne quick detach rings from the Zeiss scope. As I expected , the tube is perfect. Sterling Davenport had mounted the scope , I guess he is pretty experienced with that process.

The DAKOTA's can be fine rifles. Check with Talley. The last rifle I acquired needed special Talley rings to fit the Dakota bases. I believe the Dakota Talley bases are milled shorter, and the standard Talley rings will not fit. I just went through this with Talley.
